Does anybody have any advice for when the alarm system keeps going off, seems to have started today.

I have tried a reset the electrics via the battery in the boot but can't think of what else to do.

Any advice much appreciated

Hi Maverick,

Thanks for your response, yes it's been raining hard and is windy. I've moved it into a sheltered place and it's still happening.

Might sound like a dum question but what are the A pillars ?

Thanks for your response

A pillars are the front windscreen pillars I think there are sensors behind the pillar trims

What car are you driving?

A stopgap option may be to physically lock the car with the key, and not the button on the key fob. Your car will be locked but not alarmed. (Although your insurer might be.)

Yes, classic 4200 issue.

You need to remove the curtain trims (where the headlining meets the top of the door opening, they pop off) to reveal a screw at the top of the A pillar. Undo this and pop the trim off. You will see half way up the pillar a electrical box, undo the multiplug and tape it down so it does not rattle.

There is one under each of the A pillar trim (that run up the short edge of the windscreen, on the inside.

This will stop all your rain issues setting the alarm off.

Another curious one has been noticed. If you leave your phone in a 4200 it can have a similar effect.

Not seen it myself.

Thanks all for your replies. I seemed to have fixed it, fingers crossed. For others experiencing the same issue I did the following:

Disconnected the battery to reset it and left it overnight. Opened each door and the boot manually 3 or 4 times. I also tried the other key just in case it was a key issue. It's been 6 hours now with no alarm.

Hope that helps others.

Pretty much a text book case of speaking too soon. No alarm for 6 hours then it's just started again.

Both keys work 9touch press)open doors and seem to set the alarm. I think the only thing I haven't tried that's been suggested is the sensors in the A frame, might need some garage help for that one.

Any thoughts anyone ?
Mr Spoke too soon

Hi Maser Sod,

It's a 4200 Coupe. Have reverted to your idea to stop haressing the neighbours but no closer to a fix, any ideas ?

Cheers

It won't be a key issue. Something is triggering it, the keys only turn it on and off.

I think your best bet will be the a-pillar sensors removal.

Hi Doodlebug,

What was your issue in the end ?

Cheers
It was my mobile phone. I used to leave it in the car when I went swimming because there was no where secure inside the gym. The alarm only ever went off at the gym and it took me ages to realise it was probably the phone. I leave my phone at home now when I go swimming.
