Really not wanting a major discussion, but I need some new cleaning products :)

Just thrown away my 15 year old Megauires stuff, but we have Festival Italia next week, so I need supplies by Saturday.

Wax and some kind of detailing spray for when we get there. Wax I'd like to be reasonably easy, but the car desparatley needs claying (but won't get done before Sunday) so I don't want to spend £300 only to strip it off.

I was thinking Dodo juice softwax and detailing spray (I like their claying stuff and Maf's dodo juice spray worked well on Saturday)

Thoughts, please!

I bought some autoglym HD Max something for £40 , it really makes the car shine , halfords nearly always seem to have a 3 for 2 on cleaning but then I spend an hour trying to decide on which 2 other £40 things I need ( which I don't)

Yep I can imagine. You end up getting the £5 shampoo free.

Chris, buy a clay cloth. The lazy man's way to a bloody good finish. If I remember correctly mine's a Meguairs one. I echo the Autoglym HD recommendation as well. The finish is great. The order of service is generally along the lines of Meguairs gold wash, clay cloth using a solution of Meguairs as a lube, good rinse, dry, detailing squirt to pull out any water stains, HD wax. For detailing the Meguairs stuff is great, but I bought some Dodo juice because Amazon told me to. That's great as well. Smells fine, too.

You remind me, I must give my car more than a cursory wash!

You can now get a clay mit which are excellent and much faster. As for wax there are many and they all do much the same job, I use Autoglm Super Tesin (red label) as a polish (it's abrasive) and Harley as a sealer (non abrasive) then I highly, highly recommend you use Demon Shine pink as your detailer. It's superb stuff.

All available in Halfords on a 3 for 2.

One word of warning on the Autoglym Super Resin, it's powdery so masking up your trim that takes 10 mins will save you an hour trying to get the white residue off later.

It was Matt on here that put me onto Harley's wax, love using the stuff. Goes on like butter with no white residue.

Don't worry about Harkey sitting on the shelf it doesn't go off. Dem did a group buy, must have been 2011 and gifted me the remains 3 tins. I use it on all the fleet and am just at the end of the first one! I should be good for another decade before needing to replenish.

I like Demon Shine but would not advise using it on a dirty car, all your doing is swirling your paintwork up with the grit on the surface.

Most product these days, like Harley are sealers, they don't actually polish....ultra fine cutting action hence why Auto Glym (or similar), Harley's Wax sealer (or similar) and DS is all you need, after clay/mitting the surface first.

You can go further but the above is more than enough for the domestic use we require.

if you want to try some wax I have a few you could try - Zymol concours very good, raceglaze 55 or black-label

would recommend most Zymol waxes or cheaper version raceglaze. Newtons your man for Zymol.

still need to try and test Harley's wax.

detailing spray as Matt said demon seems to be good one, T used this a lot on the euro trip. another option is spray quick detail sealant C2 crystal spray

SRP is not a good thing to use, it's a filler and is the devils detailing stuff ;) it is aggressive and could creat marring on your paint work

also as Matt said clay cloths are good, I use both cloth and the maguires clay you get from halfords.

I still use a clay bar like you Enz, just I heard the mitts are very good but yet to try it for myself.

You may not like the Harley's as your on a different level when it come to detailing but is great for us domestic types, it goes on and off easy and recon I could get it on and off in 10 mins if I was against the clock. It also works extremely well with a dusting of Demon Shine over the top.

Newton turns his nose up at it as he says its petrollium based but it does the job.

Arrggghhhh option paralysis :)

Thanks Enzo. Matt's getting me a tub of Harlys. It meets my cost expectation right now. I'll grab some detailing stuff for post the drive down and see how it pans out.

Cheers

Get a farecla clay mitt. If your getting some stuff from halfords on 3 for 2 then its free. You can clay mitt the whole car in about 20 minutes and just use a clay bar for any realy awkward bits.

Its like having 20 clay bars surface area wise on your hand and you can shape your hand to the car. You dont need to use a lubricant either just make up half a bucket of super soapy mguires gold or similar car wash at a stronger concentrate level. Rinse off and dry and your ready to wax. I was really suprised how good they are. About £12 if you buying on its own or use the 3 for two offer and the cheapest item is free. Dodo juice do their own version now as well as many of the other detailing brands. If i had read the thread earlier i would have lent you my spare to try.

If you want good off the shelf from halfords then

Farecla g3 wax is 200g and apllicator for £27. Easy on easy off and high gloss but not the highest gloss and follow that with either demon shine or meguires ultimate quick detail spray. You should be able to get a clay mitt wax and detailer for £40 give or take on the 3 for two offer.

The above is farecla g3 wax and meguires ultimate detailer and taken in low light /dusk.
