Good price for a 355

it is a good price but if you read the description, it did not have a service for 3 years between '06 and '09 and did not have a service for 4 years between '00 and '04. I wouldn't buy this car as the service history is iffy and gearbox rebuild is uncommon. When i worked at the Ferrari specialist i asked one of the technicians what he thought of the 355, he said they are bombproof and if looked after, should not need a rebuild. Your better of spending an extra 5k and getting a more cherished example.

Never read it Adam so yes would need a good indi to look at it......It is the one PH has done an article on....

it might be a good example but as the cambelt needs replacing every 3 years/36k miles, with the owner not getting the car serviced for 4 years, it missed this vital service by 12months.

Missing a service wouldn't bother me, belts may have a 3 year lifespan but if the car isn't used or garaged then there may be gaps in the history, it happens a lot when ppl go abroad etc. So long as its done at the next oppurtunity and no miles are put on during that year then so what? I dread to think what Adam will say about my car when I advertise it, I may just set fire to it and be done with it!

A mechanic once told me even if your not using the car the belts should stilk be changed every 3 years miles or no miles as they are rubber....i dont know bout these things but my alfa only did 1k between belts thats why i asked but changed anyway after hearing that from forums aswel...

That is true Dem, but if you are abroad and the car isn't being used, how could you do that? You would obviously take it in when you got back.

Yes true also.....so if you selling with proof you couldnt get to it then its fine but id look into it a bit further than just the seller telling me the were away.....

Presumably the only risk is that the older belts may snap?
So if it missed a belt change by 12 months and lived to tell the tale, then got new belts fitted, surely there's nothing to worry about now?

As ever in any buying situation.......esp of a high end car, the buyer will pick as many holes in a car to get price reduced or indeed use an indie inspection to protect themselves.

The manufacturer knows best til proved otherwise........indie specialists may also develop more knowledge and then.....hands on owners an even more evolved knowledge....given the huge cost of taking care of these cars.....and that they are now 5/6/7/8/ yrs old....still with humungous costs........people get jittery/anxious if things aint well looked after......

There have been instances of innocent things going wrong and then accruing....3/4/5K costs to put all knock on failures right.......happens Dan.
