My simple question is there a special procedure when reconnecting the battery?

my owners manual just says don't have key in the ignition.

If your interested in why i have pulled the battery out then read the rest below.

------------------------'

basically my c-tek mxs 5.0 charger has been behaving odd over the last 6 weeks.

I have the special battery connection leads which shoe the red Amber green led,

For example sometimes I have had red lights on the ctek charger, sometimes, the ctek charger shows as fully charged, but the battery led cable indicator is flashing red...this Is the scenario I came Into today. I put a multi meter on the battery and sure enough it Is only showing 12.4v.

So I have taken the battery out and sure enough there is some corrosion on the battery terminal positive post. I will clean all terminals, And use the recondition feature of the ctek charger, I'm sure one of the two will solve the problem.

Before i reconnect the battery is there a special procedure like leave ignition on for 30 seconds or something like that?

I just disconnect negative clamp, leave boot open and leave for 5 minutes before reconnecting

OK thanks! And then just reconnect? Anything in particular when I turn the key, or just don't over think it! Lol.

Truth Is I've never worried about it on any other car I have owned!

I disconnect my battery on a regular basis when I am travelling away for over 2 weeks. The only things I've needed to do is reset the centre console clock, the date and time on the head unit, then the final thing is to press the lock and unlock button about four times so the button under the boot opens without doing it on the key.

Everything else works as it was prior to disconnecting the battery.

Mine messed up when I was doing it. Door and mirrors stopped working.
So battery disconnected for a good hour or more.
Connect battery
Shut boot and doors
Lock unlock twice with remote
Open door
Get in
Shut door
put key in ignition and turn to on but not starting engine
wait a minute
start car

hopefully should work all fine. In mine, I did not shut the boot in steps above and that messed up the door. Did it again as above and all worked fine.

Awesome thanks everyone one for your replies and procedures!

I will be following the above! Thank you for taking the time to reply to save me having to learn the hard way when others have had to before me.

My battery still on charge. I will reconnect and try the above tomorrow

Thanks again, battery back in and all fine. I'm glad I asked as at first the behaviour was unusual (boot would not open, mild panic lol), but the answers above gave me the confidence to just chill and running through the above it all became sorted!
