It's been a busy day, the 4200 is staying

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure

I had somebody to round to look at the 4200 today, I'd given it a wash so the paintwork looked gleaming , he arrived at 1pm , spent a good hour looking round the car, clued up guy, knew what he was looking for , took him for a test drive but all the time I was telling him about it a niggling doubt was in the back of my mind.

when he'd left with a "i'll call you" i actually felt a sense of relief that he didn't want it,Mrs W told me I was crazy to sell it after putting so much effort and time into the paint , it's running well and I really enjoy driving it so the moment of madness is over.

I've decided I'm keeping it and changing the Yeti, he sent me a text to say he's bought a Monaro instead and I couldn't be happier for him.

Then in a split second take it or leave it decision I did something I said I never would, signed a 2 year lease on a new car so it's been a busy day

You haven't heard what I've signed a lease on

A 3.0 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

I was browsing the lease deals thread on pistonheads when I spotted mangoletsi were offering what seemed like an amazing deal

3+ 23 £597 deposit £199 a month, on a 48k car !

This was at 6pm so I filled in the enquiry form and left it , 20 minutes later I get a call , they're selling that fast they're in the office until they're gone

The rest of pistonheads got all the £199s but they have a few left fitted with the £2500 safety pack which is all that lane guidance, the car brakes for you etc , this is £249 a month £747 deposit

I looked on jeeps website and the closest they offered was £4,000 deposit and £350 a month , so it's coming in 3 weeks

By 8pm theyd all gone

It's a Range Rover spec car for the price of a focus

some donkey on pistonheads telling people to drive one before they commit but there really wasn't time , I pointed out it's not the 70s, there aren't any really bad cars any more, certainly not in the 50k bracket and anyone who thinks there are has never driven an austin maxi

you're right about the tech, this one seems to have everything, air suspension, electric tailgate, lane guidance , auto brakes, it'll need at least one service in my ownership but even that's reasonable £299 for a minor and £449 for a major

would I pay 50k for it, not a chance, not even 4k down and £350 a month but £750 and £250 , **** right I will

Shame the offer wasn't on the 6.4l HEMI. That would sort of defeat the object though I guess ;)

The Grand Cherokee is a beast of a car. Hope you enjoy it.

Sounds good like a great deal but with all that tech, how is a man to die in his sleep without all those buzzers, bell as whistles braking for you?

That price includes GAP cover and road tax as well

You could always sit in the reclining seats in the back where the buzzers aren't so loud

5000 but that's about all we do in a car, i've got the doblo and 4200

Okay not a lot, but even with only 10K miles and 2 years old, its going to be worth much less than what you will have paid less typical new purchase price.

Had a renegade as a hire today to get down to Dumfries. Would not be my first pick so hope the Cherokee is a better machine. Bytheby, glad to hear you are staying in the fold ;)

Grand Cherokee I'll have you know :D

If it's under 20k at 2 years old it'd be worth buying , apparently reduced rentals can be offered after 2 years, my only worry is it'll be really nice and Lynne will get used to driving 50k motors

If it's got cruise, auto braking and lane guidance it'd be nice to get in at Warrington and wake up the other side of Birmingham , I hate that 80 miles

I can think of better ways to spend £20 a week

6 litre cars only work in the US where they have the roads for cruising, no speed cameras and cheap fuel , the 250 BHP diesel would be adequate for the nose to tail drudgery that is Britain's motorways

that £1000 road tax is the governments way of saying you can F right off with that back to America

A few years ago I was talking to an American in Disney world , he'd driven from Ohio to Florida 903 miles on one 6 lane highway that was 5 miles from his house , that's what big lazy V8s were made for
