Bought along an old Alfa Montreal for the Classic Cars stand at the NEC yesterday

I wandered over to the Maser club which was next stand along on the Friday afternoon hopefully for a chat, It immediately became clear when I mentioned that I had a low miles old 3200GT they started basically taking the p**s

There was some other muppet on the stand dressed in red trousers and wearing a mac with the collar turned up, (bearing in mind were in the NEC) making comment's too!

Seems if you don't have a 250K Maser 3500GT or something similar there not interested, shame really..

Sorry to hear that Dave, I helped them out in the morning so missed you. Strange the red trouser person as we all had to wear black trousers and formal shirt.

I certainly spoke about my 3200 with everyone & pointed a few GT owners to here with their minor issues.

Hope this didn’t spoil your day.

That would rile me, after all they wont know that you maybe have a Veyron in the garage as well.......

One of the things I hope I have passed onto my kids is, Never judge on first appearances and always treat people the way you would like to be treated, hopefully that means respect....

Strange. I spent much of the day on the Maser stand and there were no red trousers in sight. But I did see a lovely silver Montreal - was that yours Dave?

Dave , sorry to hear that because I have been a member of the club for nearly 30 years and I can assure you they are nice people.

And there few that have 3200 in the club .

My 4200 had an option to be there at the NEC this weekend but I declined the offer. I can't go either as it is a fair jaunt & have too much to do this weekend.

Very good day at the NEC today, and particularly on the Maserati Club stand, which had some stunning cars as usual, and where the prosecco was flowing freely

I was a member when I had the Merak. I remember when I turned up at a gathering once in a brand new Punto, Merak was broken lol, they came across as very judgemental. Not a member anymore.

Only ever had one conversation with this lot when I had my 3200.....Made me feel very unwelcome. Most were ancient and because I was 40 I felt they didn't want to know. Like you allandwf I never joined.

I have considered joining but their events did sound like OAP coach trips;
Vera's lunch
Scottish distillery
Blue Bird Cafe in London

Hmm not for me thank you.

However I did meet a member displaying his 3500 gt at the centenary event at the Getty mansion and he was pleasant enough.

Horses for Courses I guess.

You think they're bad you should meet the Ferrari crowd.
They were never going to accept a long haired hippie like me were they.
So I never applied.

Recall maybe 8-10 years ago visiting the NEC and the stand had bi-turbos, ghiblis, 3200's etc and having a wonderful conversation with one of the members about the Karif I believe that was on the stand.
A few years later bought mine, and immediately joined the club.
Alas I quickly discovered that the club had a membership of 652 (at that time), so was much smaller than I expected, with nothing to interest me up North, it appeared very London based, with the events being champagne based on front lawns of nice hotels. Nothing wrong with that, but rather limiting in my circumstances.
The membership was not renewed, and SportMaserati had been discovered, and the rest as they say, is history!

I was at the show yesterday and found the members wearing the club shirts very welcoming, were clearly enjoying themsleves, and seemed keen that I join despite disclosing that I own a lowely 4200 Gransport. They also managed to bag a great spot and with that big trident were the most prominent of the Italian marques. I suppose it’s difficult to make a club all things to all people and sounds like you may have spoken to a funny character. I was actually there at the same time as Marios but didn’t get chance to say hello.

Generally I thought it was a really good show - much bigger than the one in London I’ve been to the last couple of years. I only missed the boulevard they have at the London show where you get to see cars running. Also seemed to be a good presence of maserati owners there. There were three Blue coupes in the same carpark and I got to say hello to one owner on the way out.

Exactly Mike.
I bought my first 4200 the first one I saw and drove on the same day I thought I had best get some information about the car and found the forum and been active from day 1.

Yes Ian, that was me. Abit gutted that me and my mate effectively missed half the halls, including the Maserati stand. However i was like a zombie after a rough few nights sleep. Have decided next year that we will do all of them halls instead. We had a good day out regardless, so thats the main thing.

I've give it a try again, I think you might find the Club is gradually evolving and has a growing younger membership. Plus if you go to an event the vast majority of cars driven by members are post 2000. And there are events in the North, including the Northern Lights Dinner on 27 January at Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa near Nantwich which I'm organising. HR Owen will be sponsoring and there will be a Ghibli S and Levante S for test drives on the Saturday afternoon, plus a dinner and live function band in the event. What's not to like?

Likewise I figure that I am well below their age limit at 31

My car may have been part of their club at some point because it had their sticky logos which I quickly disgaurded. Since my car had a lot to iron out initially I thought the cost of the membership is better off going on new parts.

Maybe this is a bit of an assumption but if one has a post 3200 car that needs a little love SM is a greater resource. While the 'Club is better for resource for classic owners/old boys socialising..?

I do envy the parade lap around Silverstone for the classic this year that looked cool

There have been rallys in North Yorkshire and Scotland in the last 12 months as well. North enough for you?
