Hi everyone, i have been thinking about getting a new town car.
I love my Panda but as its 10 years old im thinking it could cost me a lot to run over the next 3 years.

When money is tight im thinking a new car is the answer.....

Looked at Fiat 500 1k dep and £130 p/m
VW up 1k dep and £100 p/m

What i dont like is the fact that these companies want me to pay for the car if i dont want it anytime into the agreement.

After 2 years i might want to hand it back as my circumstances change, they want the balance of what you owe them, i was under the impression you can pay a month or so penalty and then hand back.

I have to overcome that but if i do, has anyone any experience in a small town car thats economical and can do the odd long journey?

Hows the fiat for those who have one?

VW up was good to drive but little boring.....love the Clio but i know how rubbish the french cars are after a few miles....

The UP will be a grerat everyday car dem...but .....against the 500 a tad boring to look at......Not sure I would have another Renault Dem...Liz's Megane never breaks down the engine is perfect, but its the rest of the car thats the issue...electric, trim....terrible......

Never had any bother....the lady we sold it too was surprised when being MOTed last year that the underside was not great rust wise....... a mate had a few issues......exhaust needed replacing early, all tyres needed replacing too by the maker

I don't think you'll be saving money by buying a new car but what the ****, its nice to get a new car. My wife owned a 500 when they first came out, good little car but personally I think they are a woman's car (except the Abarth) I like the UP but think you can get better deals on the identical Mii & Citygo. Drive the Deal are doing very good deals on the Fiesta 1.0.If your keeping it a long time you you have the panda, it may be worth looking at Kia with its 7 year warranty or a Toyota Aygo with its 5 years.

Looked at the Mii, will go for that not the Up if i buy it as its better to look at

The 500 is my choice but its the deal that outs me off
Buying new means i have 3 years peace of mind, no MOT and saving on tax, i worked it out and its like im paying £50 pm for a new car....dont forget if things like clutch go wrong on my Panda thats £300 i must find....

I've driven the base model 500 quite a lot as it's used by the car club near me. I love the looks and it's very efficient on packaging. My neighbour is on her second one and both have been fault free. But I hate the pogo-stick ride, even with the base model on high profile tyres it bounces horribly on London's roads.

I had a Seat Ibiza for a month last Easter and was mighty impressed with it. Just the right size, came with all the bells and whistles, 1.2 petrol turbo was a lot quicker than you would expect. Even four up and luggage and it pulled like a train. Good ride and roadholding. Fun on Alpine twisties. Bit of a gruff boring engine note. Did 1,000 km on €50's worth of juice - and I was treating it as one normally treats a rental car. All around it was a great performance.

I'm currently driving a Yaris. Packaging is amazing - it looks bigger on the inside than out. All the bits work in a way Italian car owners simply don't expect: paired my phone in ten seconds, it starts playing my phone's playlists every time (no glitches), reversing camera and touch screen sat nav are a joy. Absolutely gutless, horrible electric steering and zero feedback from the peddles (and silent engine) mean I've stalled it more than I've stalled all the cars I've driven in the last twenty years put together. It really does feel like a Zanussi or Hotpoint on four wheels. I'm looking forward to giving it back to the house of Hertz tomorrow.

I'd give a one year old Ibiza a look.

Keep the Panda Dem and join a City Car Club. Given you are in London it makes no sense to commit to a car when you can rent by the hour

Dem,
If you want to keep costs down, you could do worse than get what I have, a Kia Rio Eco diesel.
11K new, 7 year warranty, no road tax, 150 quid to insure, and will do 65mpg urban, 75-80 on the motorway.
Not the most inspiring drive ever, but if it's economy you are after ...

I have the diesel sport 500 which I'm very happy with. Great economy, £20 tax, 60mpg plus lots of extras on that model. The ride on the sport is a little firm but it's a fun little car and the diesel holds it's price well too
