Hi All

I'm have just recently taken the plunge and purchased a pre-reg GTS from HR Owen - rosso mondiale with matt graphite wheels.

Can't wait to get my hands on the car and get involved in the forum. I wondered if you might be able to share your experiences on the following:

1) Glasscoat. Dealer wants 999 to put this on. While I think its a good idea, I wonder if a specialist might be cheaper and do a better job?
2) Insurance - any recommendations on a specialist insurer? Or do most people just add this as a multi-car policy?

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers
Tim

No real comments on the Glasscoat or insurance (My GT is on an Admiral Multicar policy) but well done and congrats! Welcome to the forum

Congratulations. It's obligatory to put some pics up!

I've had my GTS 3 weeks now and absolutely love it.
My insurance is with A-plan who were the cheapest for me by far.

Welcome along pal and congratulations on your purchase.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with the dealer supplied Glasscoat. If you want something like that applying, i'd get a recognised Car Detailer to give the car a full enhancement detail and get a coating applied, something like G-Techniq Crystal Serum or similar. It will probably cost less than the dealer too and will be a much better job.

For insurance, I went with a specialist and used these guys on recommendation:

www.firstpoint.co.uk

Speak with Blain. It was slightly dearer (£92) than the comparison sites but the level of cover was much much better.

Welcome along and agree with Serkie above on the Glasscoat - overpriced in my opinion.

I have an Admiral multi car policy which works out to be very reasonable.

Roll on collection day & looking forward to the phots

Congratulations on your new car

£999 to polish a it, I'd be asking why a 100k car needs any enhancement at all let alone charging a grand to do it.

Find a recommended detailer and let them do it, it'd be 1/2 the price and 2x as good

What is it then, whatever they're applying I very much doubt it'd be any shinier than my 4200 which was machine polished after the respray

Glasscoat is a ceramic sealant. I wouldnt pay £1k to have it put on the car at the dealer.

The product has its place in the market for people that want a low maintenace, low effort way to keep the car clean with an acceptable shine. There are a few problems with any of these products being put on a new car.

1. Most paint straight out of the factory isnt of the highest standard. A proper detailer will carry out a paint correction before applying any sort of ceramic sealant. The dealer wont.

2. Any contaminents that are left on the car by the dealer prior to application will in effect be sealed in a layer between the laquer and the glasscoat ceramic sealant which bonds to the laquer trapping dust, water marks and anything else that is there.

3. The level of shine you get at the end of the glasscoat process is pretty much as good as you will ever get. Applying additional products over the top will have little effect.

4. The biggest issue is that if it isnt applied correctly then its near impossible to get off and your stuck with it for 2 to 5 years. Thats a long time if the level of shine could have been better if applied correctly after a paint correction.

Gtechniq c1 and others are the same type of ceramic coating. As i said earlier they have their place and offer some additional benefits like scratch protection as the coating is several times thicker than a normal sealant or wax layers. However i would suggest you get an established detailer who is approved by Gtechniq
to carry out the process along with a full paint correction detail. Which will most likely be cheaper and achieve a much better result.

I got mine from HR Owen as well. They put a G-Technic ceramic coat on mine. I haggled so I got it for free. However if they are asking you to pay for something similar I would get it done elsewhere at a place of your choosing.

I am with esure.

Welcome!

Contact GTechniq for a list of authorised detailers trained to apply their products. I enquired for the Porsche Turbo last year after I had a full machine polish and SwissVax applied by a Porsche-approved Bodyshop. You will need smelling salts though when they tell you how much - I was quoted £800 + VAT for the Serum treatment. Wheels were extra at around £120+VAT using Gtechniq C5 - repels brake dust and dirt and easy to hose off without even pressure washing.

The price will be even more if they have to correct the paint first - in my case they didn't as it was in for a full machine polish - though they did say ask them to leave out the SwissVax as Gtechniq detailer will have to remove it before applying their products. A full machine polish was around £300 + VAT so budget for that at a GTechniq detailer.

You will easily spend £1k and highly recommended to apply the treatment to the wheels also. Lasts around 4/5 years. The water just sheets off its that hydrophobic as seen in their commercial YouTube Video. Glass smooth and glass-like shine is very possible. Only you know if its expensive or if its value to you. Any GTechniq detailer who quotes less is taking some short-cuts along the way or not using the 4/5 year warranty products and substituting the GTech C1 type of product (1 year warranty).

Congrats!

I'm also a new 'addition' to the Maserati fold :) I can't give you any advice about the ceramic protection, though it seems you have received plenty already. Insurance-wise, I previously had Admiral Mulit-cover as some others do, but Privilege were able to better the price by about £300 so it's well worth trying them too.

Good luck!

Another thumbs up for GTech - I had it applied to the GTS about 18 months ago and have been impressed.

If you have a special paint fiinsh use Topaz in Lonodn for proper detail and then paint protection film, how much of the car you cover is up to you but do the front

For me part of the enjoyment of owning any car that isn't a eurobox is a few hours outside cleaning and polishing it , I can appreciate some people need this time for costa and starbucks and perhaps £999 is worth it for the extra time it gives to savor that caramel latte but surely these treatments don't look any better than a newly polished car.
