As most of you know I have been prepping the Spyder for sale and post service the last job was to sort out the numerous paint chips and lacquer lifting but as always with this car things turned out somewhat different.
The first issue was the lacquer, Emblem found some issues last year when they jet washed the front bumper and it started to lift but recently the front has just got worse, bumper, bonnet, mirrors etc. When the body shop tried to find out the extent it appeared every panel had problems and only a light pressure from the air gun caused it to lift.
The next surprise was the arches, the front of the rears has always been an issue and these have been addressed before, this time we decided to clear all the past work and find the root cause, this wasn't helping the problem
At least the only sign of rust that was found was in the arches and they were all stripped out and repaired properly before being treated with stone chip
Then came the job of sorting the bodywork. The front bumper was the worse part so that was stripped prior to being put into primer
Then came the time to start adding some paint
Med Blue is a difficult colour to match so checks by eye were supplemented with techie checks as well to ensure a consistent finish
So what started out as a few paint chips has ended up with everything but the boot, surprising as the bottom edge of these s a known weak spot, and the frame around the windscreen being repainted.
I will post some photos of the overall result tomorrow once I have some proper light but to say she is looking stunning is an understatement
