I got one from David askew as maserati told me my one had the seal missing ,but the one from david is exactly the same os the one i removed.... so i am unsure of what maserati are saying.
I asked Carrs and they said the seal is definatly missing but i cant see where the seal would be if it had one and if it is separate (or removable) then why are maserati stating i have to buy the entire cap?
I now have a £25 cap and my original and still dont have a seal....
And No that 3200 fuel cap is nothing like mine.
I have the ferrari style cap which is polished aluminium.

My 2003 4200 revised model has a plastic cap as per the one on e-bay...is yours an after market one?

No its a 2004 model so maybe its got a different cap?
I am not sure really but it looks like this................
this image is what david sent me... but the cap he finally sent did not have this seal so maybe he sent the one on the left...?

Never seen that cap before, ours are all Fiat type plastic ones. Do you have a fuel flap on the Spyder, I assume so, otherwise the local pikies would have your fuel away.

Is it not worth having another word with David?
If he sent you a picture of one showing the seal
(clearly identified by the arrow in the pic),
but then sends you one without, that's kind of odd isn't it...
Regards,
Enzo.

Hi,Maserati told me its the same cap that is on the 360 modena spyder (without the word ferrari on it of course)
Its right for the car and was an MY04 cap.
The caps for the 4200 are usually just "push and half turn" but mine is a threaded screw on type.Except its meant to have that seal.
#I think my car is a bit of an oddball as it has a lot of stuff that just isnt supposed to be on that model.
found out that my rear discs are brand new and so are my brakes so thats good.
Just wish Carrs would contact me

Hi Adam, Odd one this as Eurospares show it as the same as the 4200 with the same part number, so it sounds like the previous owner did some serious mods, as this would involve changing the fuel union, which in turn would presumably involve some custom machining. Maybe changing the union back to standard will then allow you to sort out the seal with a standard filler cap? The union is £65 and the cap is £20, though you may be able to source both from David Askew? Hope this helps.

Adam, I have to agree with Myles on this one, I have never seen that cap.....but if David Askew has them then I suppose they must be a Spyder thing.

the ones david had came from i believe Gransports or 4200`s.
He did at first offer the plastic one but as i said,my cap is screw on and it turns about 6 times until it seals (although the seal is missing so it doesn`t).
Carrs expected it to look like it does so i am not sure whats the "crack" with this car.
Maybe this car has been modded a fair bit during its 8 owners?
Its an oddball for sure..registered in sept 2003 yet a MY2004 car...later wheels and rear screen (glass)..I will look to paperwork and see what i can glean from the service garages.

Just checked with Banana/Mick, he has gone out in his GymJams and had a look on his Spyder and he has the alloy type you have but it has a pressure release valve in the middle of it, sort of where the key would be if it was a locking type.

They must have changed it for some reason.
I will give david a call in the morning and see what he says.
its definatly not capable of taking the plastic one.

Adam, your comment above is pertinent. I've done some more checking on Eurospares and although the coupe part remains unchanged through the facelifts, the Spyder through to 2003 is fitted with a cap that has a different part number. 2004 onwards it becomes the same as the coupe. Happily Eurospares lists the gasket as a separate item that can be ordered for £31.85.

I have no idea what other changes were made to the Spyder post-2003, but it might be worth bearing this in mind for any other parts you need?

Hope this helps.
