May be worth giving Duncan Slade a call, he has a 156 black and tan sw, with very low milage, story behind it he repaired the engine for a customer 3 years ago and the bloke never collected, been sat at his ever since and you can tell it has been well looked after. Duncan keeps meaning to apply for the V5 but is that busy keeps on forgetting. All he will want is the repair cost, but if you are going to ring him he goes on holiday for three weeks on Saturday.

Hi Nick,

Sounds interesting, I've just given him a call and it sounds like a deal may be struck...

Cheers for the heads up!

Wow, didn't know he was still going!

He once did a repair for me and I got change out of a tenner - amazing!

Must pay him a visit again at some point, show him I'm back in the Alfa fold. Is he still up at Fishponds?

Well I'm committed now (some have been saying I should be for years!); Insurance is in place, Tax can only follow the MOT so Duncan is in full panic mode with his impending holiday and 8 cars still to get done! I'm going down by train early doors tomorrow, will fit the new battery and give it an MOT shakedown myself, assuming nothing untoward occurs at the MOT station I'll be taxing it and heading home around lunchtime :)

Invested in breakdown cover with the insurance but hope I don't need it!

I'll be getting there around 10, the train gets into Temple Meads 09.18 so I will have to jump a taxi or find a bus I suppose.

Be good to meet you if you are about :)

All done an dusted & back home...

What a cracking fella Duncan is; I got there about 09.45 to find the car in the workshop having returned from sailing through its MOT with an advisory on the OSF brake pipe (light corrosion), the back box (rusted heat shield) and a need for new wipers as they shead totally rather than move!

So we jumped in his car, shot over to Euro Car Spares and picked up an new battery, and wipers, returned and as we were fitting the wipers, Nick turned up (great to meet you) and having failed to be able to tax it on-line or by phone I jumped into Nick's car and found a post office to do it manually :)

Got back to Duncan's, the car was back outside & ready to go, paid the man, sorted paperwork and off I go to find a fuel station (quickly)... Well sort of as it wouldn't start without a jump! We put this down the the radio being left on and his fiddling about and lots of short runs. So I kept it running when I fuelled up and headed for the M4. Nature and age caught up with me at Leigh DeLamere services and when I got back to the car it was a no-go!!!!! I fiddled with the wires around the battery for a bit and tried it and all fine and has been since happily.

Stopped for a Bozniwash on the A12 and it cleans up ok:

So there are now two Italians on the driveway :D What a bargain I have too.... Thank you Nick and Duncan.

One on the right shows miles done or temp outside, and the one on the left is the brightness of dash bulbs ;)

Cheers Nick, I'm sure I would have worked it out eventually but neither are intuitive!
