Looking at a car which needs belt and serviced.
Indie tells me do the water pump and tensioners etc at the same time as false economy not to.
Is £1k reasonable for the work?
Seller seems to think it is grossly excessive.

Alfa Workshop or Duncan at Alfanet. Belt and tentioner change is about £450 and you can get a Continental water pump for about £60 on EBay or Mister-auto.co.uk. Chuck in a fluid and filter service and your looking at £700 all in so yes, a grand is way over the top for belts and pump only.

Duncan did an engine rebuild, cambelt/pump/re ground and polished crank/oversized bearing shells and full head and gasket change for a grand inc parts and labour to put it into perspective. I did remove and refit the engine and delivered and collected it from him.

I suppose it depends if you just want a belt change so you can say it's been done when you sell, or you want everything done. This was a breakdown of my last one.
Aux belt guides x2
Timing belt
Water pump
Guide roller x2
Rocker cover gasket x 2
Plug seal x 6
Tensioner
Anti freeze 1lt x 3

Total cost including labour £972.

Granted some things need not need doing everytime, but I had no records for belt changes on this car so wanted everything done. Aux roller guides would not normally be done but mine were rough.

Allan, the price quoted on Feli's is all in per schedule mate. Like I said that may not include the pump, but seems yours is still expensive.

Pretty sure Jamie's *does* include the pump and is still cheaper than yours.

My last cambelt and water pump change done by him was £560 :) Can't beleive how lucky we are to have him in Bristol :)

You must be spoilt south of the border. The three specialists I asked all quoted around the same. So up here £1000 does seem ballpark. I suppose it depends where seller is.

One of the things we put up with living in gods country is higher prices because going for cheaper costs more to get there....;)

It was CP that quoted a grand approx.
Was told that metal vanes being replaced now with carbon fibre in water pumps.
Even CP is a hike from here. Might look at getting someone close to the seller to do the work before I collect if purchase goes ahead.
Thanks for all the info guys.
