Very nice, when I first saw a 159 on the M6 not long after launch I spent 15 minutes trying to catch it up to see what it was.

They still look current today

159 or Brera was my choice due to reliability from GM parts. Brera won due to styling and 4 wheel drive and a Holden engine.

I am liking that.
I am looking for a daily and been looking at XC 90, Touareg etc,
Never considered an Alfa!!!

They're even better when remapped and also get the egr blanked. I got rid of mine at 135k, the mot check website now has it on 230k miles, who said Alfas were fragile? They're great cars that still look brilliant 10 years after they were launched.

Very nice. The 2.4 and the Q-tronic box is supposed to be a good combo. Tell us more... Any issues so far?

Prompted me to look up a couple of my old Afas. My 1996 164 3.0 24V got up to 150k miles a year ago, and is now SORNed. My 1999 2.0 TS 156 seems to have been scrapped :( That was a sweet car.

Duncan Slade (my Alfa Specialist) drove it this morning, detected a slight rumble from the front n/s wheel so replacement wheel bearing needed, and I knew when I bought it a slight rattle on start up, Duncan suspects manifold but says its a easy fix. Picked it up dead cheep as it is high millage, not long mot, and has on the n/s a dent near the door handle, but as a daily workhorse I don't mind.

Drives fantastically, power and toque are very smoth, only my second auto not really played with the manual setting yet, drives even better now I found the sport button. So many toys on the Lusso, still getting to grips with them all. Got to decide weather to remove the sun strip the previous owner put on, it covers the sensors for the auto wipers and lights so they are switched off at the mo. Massive boot is something I wanted, that will get used well :)

Well think the risk I took was worth it, (well it does help having Duncan Slade in Bristol), Little over 500 quid spent, and a MOT for twelve months :) Mind the mot station missed the rumble on the front left of the wheel bearing, job to do in the next few weeks. One thing I will need to do is the dreaded front sub frame, repaired for now but will need a new one ;)

Happy bunny for now :)

Spoken to him a few times on the phone, fantastic bloke :)

Thank you and welcome btw

Mine needed a new turbo (it was howling) egr bypass, cat removed + map. Gus did it all in a day, well worth the journey up there from Stevenage. Gus dropped me off at the train station and picked me up, gave me time for a nice tour of Liverpool whilst there. Was thinking of getting him to do my Mito 155tb but this gearbox needs its bearings done first, starting to make me think German

Google BMW N47 to check German reliability, or BMW swirl flaps...

Just when I was thinking of going over to the reliable side, are the post customer services as bad when you have an issue though?

My 2012 320d engine failed - timing chain snapped and totaled the engine; unrepairable. The bits then went around the turbo and that failed within 10 miles of picking it up... Whilst the turbo was being replaced the gearbox went. All at 110k miles. I have another one now as the customer service was so good but I won't again...

Our 520d is well out of warranty so i don't personally know what the support from BMW would be like. So i would be on my own if it failed, most of of the timing chain failures are put down to the extended service intervals - 20k oil changes.

Th reports you see online are all the typical complaining about poor service, not many would take the time to write a positive review.

I drop the oil every 10k or annually and so far so good 150k miles and counting. (mind a new engine with insurance at 80k due to being driven through flood water - my wife)

I think every car has it's share of problems but they seem to make a fuss of anything from Italy.

The GFs father has a 318 2003 from new. He still gets BMW to service it and its just turned 120k.

I was surprised to hear it was still on its first clutch as he only drives around the shops with the odd 100 mile trips to family.

As fate always does last month he had a CEL and took it into BMW for a check. They stated it had an oil leak and the clutch was shot... £2,200 please! On a car worth less than a couple of hundred.

They then tried to sell him a demo 118, basic spec for £24,000. He's 86; what does he want a new car for at that price.

I got my local BMW Indi who is ex Dick Lovett to quote... £450 inc VAT.

Stubborn old sod still took it to BMW but did get £600 knocked off. Called in to see them on the way home from London...His car is making a tappet noise when first started...no oil on dip stick!!!!!

He still won't complain like most older people but it boils my blood how they take the **** with him.
