    147 GTA Progress thread

So, I've acquired some stainless bolts as part of a group buy on AO which included the m7's that hold the cam covers on which has prompted me to pull the engine apart and give it a clean... IMG_2540 by chris147gta, on Flickr Before; IMG_2528 by chris147gta, on Flickr During; IMG_2542 by...

    Alfa 3.0 GTV Engine

Re the oil breathers, these pics are from 2006, when I first did a cf3 into a cf2. The thread I had running has gone but I hope you find the pics useful. I used the cf3 cam covers, and a cf2 plenum. Thinking about it, I can't remember why. It may have been because I didn't want to use a plenum...

    Alfa 3.0 GTV Engine

Theyre different to the gta's, they have sooooo much torque low down. Makes them good fun and 1st gear redundant...

    Alfa 3.0 GTV Engine

I disagree, 156's with 3.0's in them are great, they're better on fuel too.

    Alfa 3.0 GTV Engine

Oh as a final point, the engine mounting points appear to be different in your pics. I think the engine you have bought has come out of a 166? To swap the engine mount you'll need to remove the cam belt. With it being from a 166 you'll also need to swap the mid shaft carrier (oil...

    Alfa 3.0 GTV Engine

Definitely the easiest way. I don't have much experience with GTV's but I had to remove the subframe and radiator to get the engine out last time around. It could be that I had the engine crane set up wrong or just that I was working in a confine space and it may be possible to get it out...

    Alfa 3.0 GTV Engine

Your gtv is a cf2 and the engine you have bought is a cf3. There are a number of differences, notably; a) The knock sensors. The cf2 uses 3 wire knock sensors where the cf3 uses 2 wire. Obviously the plugs are different... You can only realistically access the sensor nearest the flywheel with...

Alfa Romeo working on new-generation hero

Sounds like the future is bright but the not buidling cars in other countries is both reassuring and worrying - It could lead to an unviable product due to it's expense.

Twinspark Cam belt and Variator Change ( diy )

That guide is at least 12 years old, to berate the writer for using a white tensioner is more than unfair as the metal type tensioners didn't even exist at the time. It was also written when the engines were relatively new and everyone, including the garages, was terrified of touching them...

    V6 trumpets

Usually a goood going over with autosol works wonders. You have to remove them to do it properly so you may find you need to replace the gaskets.

    3.0 Head Gaskets

BGA (cheap and not that great in terms of quality but does the job), OE or Victor Reinz. I'd get a head gasket set personally and regrind the valves. You may wish to note that if you turn the crank with the heads off you'll disturb the liner seals which will then need to be replaced. - Alfa...

    147 GTA Progress thread

I've not been happy with the throttle response I've been getting from it since I bought it, particularly on downshifts whilst braking, it wont rev up high enough. It's also had a reoccuring misfire which we've been trying to diagnose without much success. Last time around I think I checked...
