Didn't exactly go wild with the wheels did they.

It is a handsome thing, that has to be said.

I like the Ghibli a lot, always looks special compared to other saloons, could have done better with the wheels on this one though.

Are those wheels the same Phil ?.....I know the limited edition ones are black but they look slightly different or maybe it's the angle.

Far to small for the car or the design makes it seem that way. One of the worse design wheels for the car for me. Get those 20's on it....They look the business.

Doesn't look that much different to mine, except I've got better wheels ;)

Not sure about the new grill, but its a bit more aggressive. The problem is that badge to house all of the unwanted* driver assistance :(

* I know that the driver assistance is something that people like Doug DeMuro like because its tech and god forbid your car didn't have all of the latest high tech gadgets in it, but for me it misses the point of Maserati. Don't you buy a Maserati to drive it and not to have it drive you?

Have to say that I had radar cruise control in the Toyota Camry rental this summer and it was great. (The radar cruise control that is!) However, probably wouldn't have needed/wanted it if I had been in my QP!

Some of it is good. I don’t know if it has pre sense collision etc but in the event you do crash you will be grateful it applied tension to be belts before you crash and go head first towards the air bag. Lane assist however has always been a bit pointless

Seat belt pretensioners have been around for a while and work without the need for cameras etc.

The lane assist is worse than pointless. If you try to swerve without indicating, because something has suddenly come out in front of you, it will actively resist possibly preventing you avoiding an impact.

The problem is that it is, or will be, part of Euro NCAP so will almost become compulsory.

Lane assist normally has to be activated as it needs white lines to work, so will remain manual unless they use GPS activation in the future. Pre sense obviously works on sensors rather than cameras. Most of this stuff can still be turned off. Certainly with Audi etc you can turn off pre sense, blind spot and lane assist so not a big problem if you prefer the driving experience without and suspect it is customisable with most manufacturers

Lane assist is on by default, and re-enables itself on engine start. So you have to switch it off every time you get in the car and drive off.

The thing is that this is now compulsory stuff to get a high NCAP rating. Whilst I concede that this stuff is done with the best intentions in the end it makes driving worse as people become reliant on it rather than doing the driving themselves. I know that we are moving towards self driving cars because tech companies want to sell us that and people get into a technogasm whenever a computer can do something humans have been doing for 100+ years. The question is should we? Or should be instead go back to putting the responsibility on the driver.

Re the Ghibli lane assist - Does it interfere and actively intervene all the time? How does it do it on a country lane or B road for example? Do you think people really become reliant on lane assist? I.e. happily wander across lanes in the knowledge the car will push them back inline? I get something like adaptive cruise definitely encourages laziness (its the point of it) but lane assist is occasional at best I would have thought. Perhaps we are more diligent than the average.......

Driving the Levante I was on a little road, with a central dotted white line. I moved to the right to avoid some roadworks at the edge of the road, no indication because there was no other traffic and getting past took a couple of seconds. The lane assist kicked in and steered me back towards the roadworks so I had to overcome it. I switched it off after that.

Its not so much laziness as dependency. People will get so used to it that they will expect it so won't pay as much attention to keeping in lanes as the car does it for them. The problem comes when there are no lane markers and they wander too far across the road because they aren't used to keeping in the correct position. It doesn't have to be all the time, just a brief distraction.

I think all this tech , quite frankly, has gone a bit too far, just leave it out and let natural selection do it's thing......
Used to love running down the high street into Boots, put me camera film in the "envelope" , pay me money and send it off, be all exited for a week till I got them back only to find half of them were gash...Ahhh.
