Keep or swap?

Thoughts please,
I have a 15 plate Granturismo with the MC shift gearbox which I have been told is one of the last cars fitted with this box! I love the car, its got 18000 miles on the clock and is in mint condition for the year.
I am (stupidly or not) thinking of swapping for maybe an 18 or 19 plate GT as it will be the final shape GT ever.
Am I being daft even thinking about swapping?
Cheers
Neil

Cost to change?

It's down to the driving experience for me. The changes to the later model over yours are not that significant so take the new one for an extended test and see what you think and if it's better, is it £25k better?

For me, probably not

The new model does look good, with the updated dash. I would only swap for a MC Stradale though, personally I don't think it's £25k better.

Get Apple Car play in and you will have the tech of the new car. Everything else will be the same.
(not a fan of the last update looks wise anyway).

I have a (late) 17 plate with MC Shift which is the pre-facelift. Facelift makes little or no difference IMO but I also thought was fitted with MC shift?

Your better of trading for a MC Strad as that will probably be the most desirable one, if you wanted to trade. If you trade to a 18/19 GT, the only benefit is you will get the new touchscreen U connect system (which is really good) & the latest zf 8 speed with Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport, and ICE like in the QP6 GTS. I think shifts are less than 100ms.

I'd stick. Your current car has the best gearbox (IMO) and the best looks. It'll also depreciate less than the newer car.

I can see the argument for swapping to a Strad, but not for a slightly younger normal GT auto.

(And if you want newer touch-screen ICE, just buy the kit from Matt.)

In the interest of fairness.. I don’t think the MC shift suits the big heavy GT style of the Granturismo (other than Stradale) it’s not fast enough to warrant it..

I’m not sure how a car that goes from 0-60 in under 5 secs on its way to a top speed of circa 180 somehow isn't fast enough to warrant a manual gearbox! Not that the manual box is about the speed or weight of the car anyway, it’s about the fun. I’ve had three GranTurismo’s and the two manual cars were more fun to drive than the one auto (even though that was the late MC Auto-shift version). There is a time and a place for an auto box, but for me and a Maserati, it’s not here or now.

Extremely well put Ewan - I was a little uncertain how my relationship with the gearbox would work out coming from manual Porsches - but I totally love it and I think the car would be quite a different proposition without having to think about changing gear - I still feel like I’m really driving it. Massive part of its character for me. Not sure I’ll feel quite the same when I need a new clutch mind ..... but I’ll get over it
