Interesting, didn't know that. Does he have to tell people to "Get off my land" on at least a weekly basis to qualify also?

Leaving it fallow is actively farming it.
I think the revenue would challenge that, I have had discussions with my accountant on this subject. I have also been in farming my all my working life although not on an active day to day way now. You would have to be very careful how you set things up if avoiding inheritance tax was your goal

I suggest you take a long hard look at how you communicate with people. Being self righteous and sanctimonious are really not good qualities in my book.

I'm truly sorry (and a little depressed) that you feel that I was being self-righteous or sanctimonious. It's true that I was a little vivid and judgemental in my comments about irresponsible collaboration with propagandists, and that was, perhaps, a bit strong. But mostly I was trying to debate the veracity of the information that you had put forward, in an attempt to discover truth.

You are right, I really should re-think this. How I communicate with some people, in some situations, is very often a complete waste of time, and I should give it up. I keep forgetting that people really don't want debate, they just want to express their opinions and stop there. I should learn to leave them be, I suppose.

The process very often follows the exact same path:
  • Someone makes a 'factual' claim.
  • I challenge the supposed facts (sometimes too vigorously).
  • They ignore the specifics of the challenge, but respond to it by accusing me of ranting, talking tosh and attacking their right to an opinion (or worse).
  • I say that opinions are fine, but ask if they can support their 'facts', or rebut my challenge, in any way.
  • They tell me I'm a bad person, because using facts and logic sounds 'superior' and 'holier-than-thou'.
And so we descend into the mire of anti-intellectualism, misinformation and anarchy.

Seriously, social media should remain exactly that. It’s a rubbish medium for debate and is being used by the powers that be to suppress and control - just like TV was when I was a nipper. As Andy Warhol predicted, people are addicted to the new, unmoved by routine atrocities (to paraphrase Nick Cave) and are constantly sold new stuff by algorithms which track what you’re thinking/typing. It’s a minefield. I know it’s not the time to talk about Education when Health is the investment choice of the moment, but it is where we should be trying to change the world.

Just look at the Arab Spring for evidence. Boom, protest and then fizzle. All a direct result of the inadequacies of “social” media.

Great place to look at cars ‘n girls though.

The thing I find really funny about this is that if they do start to import it, you don’t have to buy it. Last time I bought a chicken at Tesco it was 3.99 ready basted in a cooking tray. It can’t get much cheaper.

Yep. And not entirely sure how this is meant to be so much better than a chlorine washed one.....

And the next stage is ad hominem.....

....and there it is. Again.....

C
I will start by admitting I Googled ad hominem. But basically someone believes the pandemic started as an accident in a laboratory, some one else on here agrees with that possibility, but another on here strongly disagrees, that should really be the end of it. Or, does the other person who disagrees have a more Logical explanation as to the cause. If so please put it forward and I am sure it can be debated. But not by me, I do not really understand big words.
