I have a mad week ahead of me so today is a do nothing day:
  • out for breakfast and coffee now then off for a drive is the 65 Mustang
  • Lunch will be outside in the garden followed by a quick wash of the GTS and a drive into the country
  • then off to my sisters for her birthday drinks
  • ending with a relaxing BBQ at home

It’s what Sunday’s were made for !

Morning, (just), lovely sunny warm day up north perfect for just sitting in the garden and regretting the amount of beers, ciders, wines and cocktails consumed whilst sat round the fire pit with friends yesterday afternoon, evening and the early hours of today. So a no-driving day for me .. F1 and a nice slow cooked beef roast today with a good bottle of Merlot to take the edge off :)

Morning all. Also worked on the wine. And the vodka. And the whisky. Mrs C is best described as 'unimpressed' today, but is blaming the anti-histamines. So a slight positive.

I shall work my way out of the doghouse. Have a great day, all

Morning all, a lot of thinking done this weekend and decision made to start looking for another job, preferably not in Dublin and maybe be 3 or 4 days per week or at least one that can move that way in a year or two.

Good Luck Andy.
One thing I can say is after this year I'm really enjoying the freedom of doing nothing.
At first I thought but I need the money but life has been just as good without it coming in.
I'm thinking differently now.

Part of the reduced day logic is to take more time to enjoy life, a bit early to retire but a slow rundown over the next year or two would a nice entry into it

Morning all, successfully fitted the rudder kit to the kayak yesterday and planning on getting out in it this week for the first time this year! A couple of local jobs and admin today.

Have fun all...

Good man. I keep having thoughts along the lines of a 4-day week, but as I'm currently working no days a week anything would be an improvement. I'm sure another insane, intense shitstorm of fuckery can't be far away, and I can look on with envious eyes as you stretch your weekends out.

Chris, I hope you didn't befoul the wardrobe. Good luck with making amends.

Morning, all. Today, I shall be mostly bothering people (in a charming way).

That's a Good plan.
I'm 58 shortly and feel I have done my bit and from now on doing just what I want to be doing in my own workshop.
I was really lucky to get the opportunity to 'retire' ( from work but not from life as my missus says) last year at the grand old age of 57. 5 years earlier than I had expected but TBH after 31 years working in the Aerospace snd Defence industry, I was made an offer I would have been stupid to refuse. So the decision was a no brainer. Yes I do miss the daily problem solving, the team leading and hustle and bustle of a great industry, but now I am filling my life with other stuff and importantly I have been liberated from all of that corporate BS that I suspect many of us want to escape. No more performance reviews, no more pointless meetings, no more power point presentations, no more office politics, no more late night telecons with US teams..... and no more emails to trawl through (200+ every day). Covid-19 has put a bit of a spanner in the works in terms of travelling (safely) for now at least but I am sure the situation will be much improved in a year or so's time.
The important point is if you do get the opportunity to retire early, then don't hesitate. Grab it with both hands and enjoy everyday as much as you can. We all have one life so live it!.

I have an idea for a little retirement business, it won't make me rich but if it goes OK it will bring in a few quid and has me tinkering about with classic cars. A couple more years proper work with a few more days off will help me get it set up and test before packing up real work for ever.
