V8 Vantage

R8 V8

Bentley

That would be my list. You've had the Maserati already, so you should know if you want it.

The V8 Vantage is brilliant.
The boot is also cavernous, so despite its small size it's actually very usable.
It is the perfect blend between sports and GT.
Build quality is great. It's a very nice place to sit.
Bags of character.
It is an absolutely classic design.
Aston Martin Works (dealership) is simply the best place you can take an Aston, however, they have fixed price servicing and don't bend you over. Aside from that, there is a decent number of independents.
I would get it over a DB9 as I found the DB9 a bit too big and there's a lot of weight upfront.
Keep the entire exhaust system stock, but replace the cats with 200 cell race cats (pricey but worth the money)
You can get a remote to operate the exhaust flaps (cheap)
It will then sound like this, and when you want it to

R8 V8
If you're happy with it being an Audi.
If you're happy with the interior.
There's simply nothing better on your list.
I got in it, it was so confidence inspiring that within 15mins, I was going very quickly!
The handling and grip are sublime.

Bentley
It's a luxury cruiser that can go very fast.
But, do your research on issues, costs and fixes.
Many seem to say they're expensive to run and fix. However, Maserati have a very similar reputation to Bentley, in terms of costs of running, yet we've all had those and still have food to eat!

Good luck

Cerbera maybe. 4 seats (ish), epic noise and looks (well I think so), mad interior. Quick and maybe high maintenance but they say that about GTs.
It's the one previous car, other than my 3200 AC I would own again. Maybe not as a daily though, mine always felt like an uxb on the edge, part of its charm lol.

I was going to suggest the Alfa Romeo Gulia Quadifoglio but disappointingly they‘re still over budget, they seem to start at 40k , though if a Bentley and an Aston are on your list you must have a 10k war chest so spend some of that :D

Soooooo

I have a list of cars that I'd quite like to own. And I should be able to buy one of in the next job iteration. Budget is £35k totally top. £30k is what I can get past the expenses committee but there are ways.....

Currently short list:

DB9 V12
Bentley GT Speed
Granturismo MC shift (worried that if I bought one of these, I'd never buy any of the others)

Two questions:
Why would I not add an R8 (other than it's an Audi)

What else might I look at? No 911s please. Had one as a loaner. Hated it.

I wouldn't discard the V8 R8.....They seem great value for money and until you drive one keep it on the list? I think they have also aged very well and still looks modern.

I would say V8 Vantage over the DB9 as its a better drivers car and oh so beautiful but looking at your list they are all GT cruisers so maybe not the driving experience you want which also may mean the two seat R8 is also out.

If you need the rear seats then you can't consider the r8 and Bentley is way too heavy for fun car (even a full fat QPV is way lighter!).
For me it would be between the DB9 and the GTS.

If you don't need the rear seats you may want to consider the Alfa 4C. It has the ethos of the elise but more beautiful to my eyes. You can get a mint example for your budget. But only works as a second car.

Lotus Evora.

My mate had one as a company car. Went to Spa in it a few years ago. It’s the only car apart from the Maser I’ve been in recently that felt special

Some really great input, gents, thanks.

I can't see a GT-R happening. I hadn't considered the Vantage because V12 (which was the box I was looking to tick, but I shall have another look)

Cerbera. I always loved the old TVR's but not sure a car of that age is somewhere I want to go. Lord those interiors though!

Plenty food for thought. Now I just need the other stuff to come together :)

They have annoyingly held their money well after initial depreciation.
Can't believe it is 11 years since they where launched.
Kids have probably grown too big now for the rear seats!

That would be top of my list rather than a 10-15 year old Aston or Bentley

I've always had a thing for powerful 4 door saloons , the alfa being full of modern tech and 500bhp really floats my boat ,much easier to move on as well i'd have thought

Yeah, not feeling it being special enough. Oddly. Wouldn't mind if Mrs C wanted one ;)

I would take an Évora S over an Audi R8 every day of the week. Have had two and they are wonderful and practical as a daily driver. Can do sports and GT car all in one, and feel very special if you don’t mind the somewhat spartan interior of the early cars.
