Put beard in “” I mean they’re car geeks. Like most of us. It’s the problem Lotus has with wanting to sell more cars, they only appeal to car geeks. Where as Porsche, Ferrari etc appeal both to car geeks and the general public that sees them as a aspirational image.
I agree. Let's see if that changes.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo jealous but very excited for you. So what are you first thoughts ….Such a great looking car.
First, I didn't have any prior expectation, so placing an early deposit was a nil risk bet (fully refundable).
I like the styling, looks great, and have heard it's even better in the flesh.
Pleasantly surprised by the AMG engine and DCT - I think that's going down really well, and I might choose that, especially since I already have an Exige V6 manual.
The luggage space appears to be enough for a week away, which is something I couldn't realistically do in the Exige unless travelling solo.
Like what's been said about the Touring pack and would choose that for my usage.
Just waiting for more detail on pricing and options etc before making a decision, but have plenty of time before confirming my order.

Agree on the AMG engine. That would be my choice and a very exciting prospect. Great little torquey engine and must be lighter than the V6 plus add that DCT gearbox and I think it will be brilliant.

At Goodwood yesterday there was a queue to see the Emira, and no queue for the MC20.

It appears that Lotus has become a more interesting car to the general public, than Maserati.

I'm not sure. The best bit about the Exige I drove the other week was the V6. It makes such a better noise.

Maybe I'll have to buy one of each? V6 in touring spec and the AMG in track spec.... And still have money left over from what an MC20 would cost. Ha!

i think Lotus has probably been more interesting to the British public anyway because….well….They are British and lots would remember the racing heritage, Bond with the Esprit, etc but Maserati here is pretty niche I think and lots of the general public probably wouldn’t remember the heritage as it was in the dark ages at the beginning of motorsport. We buck the trend on here mind you. Bet must of the public could name a Lotus but I bet lots couldn’t name a Maserati model.

In fairness Lotus is brand new, and they had a massive stand. Maserati had three marquees, one of which was an engine cutaway, and no stand. Considering the Maserati was surrounded by other supercars it was fairly busy all day.
Covid has really hit the press launch for it - hardly any British mags went.

Just catching up on this as been offline for some weeks. What a cracking car the Lotus. At £60k it feels great value and almost cheap but £90K is a big difference. I suspect it will be somewhere in between.

The MC20 like so much stuff these days is catering for a whole higher pay grade than me.

As Dan alluded to I think some of the old stuff will stay strong now. I wouldn't sell my Chimaera for less than £30k no chance. Where else do you get a British RWD manual V8 with 490bhp weighing 1060kg these days for anything like that?

So much stuff has inflated creating another asset bubble way beyond any justifiable real world value.

I always wondered if the world has gone made and I think it finally has.

I'd love to see Gordon Murray or the like do a sub 1000kg lightweight sports car for max £50k. Not a silly million pound thing. Maybe inflation has gone so far it is just not possible or viable any more. Surprised Ford hasn't put that 3 cylinder Fiesta ST lump into something small with a 2 seat 2 door coupe body.

I’m liking the look of this Lotus. At the cheaper end of its scale it could make an affordable and fun daily car, with just enough practicality.
Recently I’ve been using my GS on a regular basis. But having no easy storage for keys, phone, wallet, etc, nor any cup/bottle holders, is a pain. Getting minor details like this right makes the car a viable option for the thousands of people that currently buy, for example, Porsches.
Keeping the Strad as the loud weekend toy, the 4 pot AMG could be ideal as commuting car, and not too big for my local country lanes. Touring spec please, in BRG and tan.

You mean like a late 90s Puma? But that name is now a small SUV which speaks volumes of the mass market who can't drive so have to get a tall car to mask their inability to drive.

As with most of these types of cars they may start at 60k but add some choice options and 10/15k is soon on the order form. Even at a fully loaded price if 90k for the top model it still looks like a 100k car to me.

Did anyone see Goodwood on ITV4 this week. You can get it on catch now as well. They showed the Amira going up the hill and maybe it was the grey colour on the silver wheels but it didn’t look as good as launch car or the car on the stand..Plus I believe it is a prototype and didn’t look like it was sat as low. Anyway then the MC20 went up the hill in that gorgeous blue and my goodness that looked ever inch a Supercar. Think I would like both armies for everyday and MC20 for that very special moment.

Great choice Phil….So jealous but really excited for you. No one makes a car like Lotus and that is a good thing. If this can capture the magic of what makes Lotus cars great to drive and add some usability then it’s a winner. Let’s face it Lotus have not made a bad drivers car for years and years. Look forward to hearing your journey. Are you thinking V6 ? I would be tempted with that AMG engine one as it sounds a very interesting proposition in that stunning car.
