Don’t be put off France. Once you figure out the rules it’s pretty simple. In fact, getting into France is easier than getting back into the UK. And even that’s simple if you take a test and fill in a form.
I think for a lot of people the fact that you could fail the test on the way out, or worse, on the way back is when it gets complicated.

Good point. There's no test on the way out, though, not if you're 2x jabbed. And if you're not you need an essential reason for travel.

Everywhere abroad we have cancelled/moved to next year.
Even a family visit to France in two weeks, although with the recent change my sister in law has immediately booked flights to come here instead.
A holiday is meant to be stress free, and with all the covid tests and possibility of a sudden change in rules that isn't a holiday.
We have just enjoyed 5 days in North Wales, fortunately all except the last day the weather was great. That's all you want really, nice weather.
Exactly our thoughts with regard to travel to france

Not happy paying what (for example a lot of self catering places seem to be charging) OTT.

Really sorry your plans have been scuppered, hopefully you will find a suitable alternative. But you do highlight a very valid point that those who have not made the profit they did last year are now taking advantage of the situation and ripping people off this year. This hasn’t been helped by the government making it so difficult to travel abroad, or should I say so expensive. In my mind the whole thing has been about forcing the average person to spend their money in the UK, But the UK service providers have now taken advantage of the situation and now it’s very
difficult for the average person who holidayed in the UK last year to do so this year.

Had a conversation about this very subject last week.

I can also see the places trying to keep the over inflated prices next year as well based on the fact that people are paying them this year.

Short sighted imho as by next year hopefully the usual european vacation spots will be back in full swing and it will be cheaper to go abroad again than stay in the UK.

Its a very simplistic view but can you imagine if all the pubs , restaurants and physical non essential shops that have been closed during the lock downs doubled their prices to recoup lost trade.

Utter micky take by certain business sectors.:mad::mad:

I’ve a similar quandary in that it’s our 30th in March and like you I’m putting pressure on myself to get it right. Part of that is that I did too good a job for our 25th.
I would certainly recommend Cyprus. Corfu; Crete and like others have said the Algarve.
We have a week in a Cottage in Cornwall booked 1st week October, very reasonable as booked it last year, and then West Yorkshire in a cottage for a week in May.
Still think I need to make an effort for March though.
Have you thought about Bali, Maldives?

latest news:

After a spell on the so-called "amber plus" list, France's move back to amber means that fully vaccinated travellers returning from there to England, Scotland and Northern Ireland no longer need to quarantine.
India, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are moving from red to amber, whilst Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Latvia, Romania and Norway are going green.
People arriving from green list countries do not need to quarantine regardless of vaccination status - but it's the additional amber list destinations that appear to have attracted the most interest.
Ahead of the changes to the lists coming into effect at 4am today, travel companies reported a surge in interest in journeys to France and the UAE.

Ahh I was not intending to imply anyone was ripping anyone off. Totally get the supply and demand challenges. Just not sure that I regard the deals on many offers as good value. (especially compared with our preferred option)

Have you been to Crete?

No. The more we look at places the less we actually feel like it. We've managed to snag 8 days in Jamaica, which actually gives us some comfort that we can make a choice as opposed the choice having been taken away.

I think we might well go small(ish. I can see the cost ramping up in the UK pretty quickly) this year and stick with our go large for 2022.

Thanks for listening, all

Just the hoops to jump through are not fabs. Does look sumptious as well!

Be honestn it is a rip off, and for sure advantages are being taken, call it supply and demand if you want, it’s still a rip off. Places charging three times plus what they charged two years ago for the same facilities. Not saying I blame them, I just feel sorry for those who don’t have the money to pay the prices. They also deserve a holiday, but now totally priced out. I suppose opinions depend on circumstances.

The Uk travel industry have been very short sighted and in some circumstances greedy this year. After years of complaining about lack of business this would of been a good opportunity to show what this country has to offer and to promote themselves for years to come. Some people will swallow the prices this year due to being desperate for a holiday but next year will be a different story.
