Mon Plaisir in Monmouth Street is an oustanding French restaurant. I've dined there many times over the past 30 years - the cheese board is a thing of wonder and marvel!
Some interesting prints in the gents too.

I’ve eaten in Rules a few times yet I’ve never been wowed by either the food or the service.

If you want really excellent food then I can’t recommend Petrus in Knightsbridge enough and the Saturday night dinner dance at the Ritz Piccadilly is always an event. If you are looking for a cheap lunch or dinner then try Bateux London. Riverside bar and loung followed by a five course dinner on board a river cruise.
Another location for lovely food is Bob Bob Ricard. Fantastic venue and a champagne button on your table are all you need to know.
