Energy crisis

0.4 kw and .800w +1.2 kw

Yes, I get that, but the hot water doesn’t heat the house right? I assume it is a very well insulated house? My house of equivalent size needs 12kw to heat it in the deep midwinter for example.

On a fundamental level 0.8 kW isn’t equivalent to the 12 kW or more from a boiler or ASHP. On a certain level heating / cooling is a simple equation, you have to put in more than you lose, so for this to work, something else must be different.

On my drive to town for my morning coffee I have had to avoid the traffic madness caused my the queues at the filling stations and people turned away.

You can me sure the majority don’t NEED fuel today, I feel sorry for those that do need it and can’t get it .

I can see myself draining petrol from my classic car to top up my daughters car so she can get to work on Monday.

I need diesel for Thursday - let’s hope the madness has ended by then.

I went past my local station yesterday evening at 9, a couple of cars waiting. I imagine you’ll be fine to fill up when it isn’t Saturday morning and everyone woke up and decided to put an extra 5 litres into their tank. I also imagine there won’t be a queue at the more expensive stations :D

They will stop panic buying when there is some saturday night telly to watch.

Some interesting things regarding house energy etc.
we have panels (owned - installed by previous owner) Think we get about £600 a year back from them. No idea if we have batteries etc.
What would I need to look for if I wanted to upgrade to maximise the returns from the panels and maybe introduce alternatives to reduce reliability on grid.
all our hot water & heating is gas.

Would it be cynical of me to think that many of the 'shortages' are created by marketing strategists?

Surely the panic buying can only be sustained for a fixed period. Unlike toilet roll you cannot fill your shed with fuel (or at least only a very small number would be crazy enough to try). This (as I’m sure others have said) is a media driven event and not a real issue.

Correctamundo. Madness around here though!

Actually there's a theory around that the comments from BP were leaked in order to trigger this and force the government's hand....

Fuel supply round me today was relatively ok. I filled up the Merc (as it needed doing) and there were no serious queues

Also the other day I drove to Chester in the Merc about 2 1/2 - 3 hours motorway traffic all good.
My observation was no electric cars at all on the journey, plenty of hybrids. Whereas locally there are heaps of Teslas around, even my mate has just bought a new one. I have sat in it but not driven it - yet. It is indeed a step change in so many ways

We went thru the same last spring. As I live 35 miles from town/ work I now keep 30g in storage at the house. Fuel stabilizer in it, and rotate a 5g can each week. Sucks don't it.
