You learn something new every day. I always thought it was titbits

It's titbits in the UK and tidbits in the USA. I always thought it was American squeamishness about saying 'tit', but apparently it was originally tidbit and the British drifted to titbit, perhaps enjoying the rhyme.

Barga! The story goes that villagers sailing off for a better life in the USA mistakenly disembarked in Glasgow and there they stayed - fish & chips, ice cream, cafes (lawyers) started and remain today. We have been to Barga a few times - ordering in broken Italian and getting broad Glaswegian from returners and the local pesce etc - better in the UK. Stayed with Scottish Gran in a house with a relief of Il Duce carved in the gate post - she was not amused.
