I sold mine immediately after the rebuild, once I had calmed down..
...oh, I definitely didn't bring it home. Wasn't calm enough to look at it, ever again. I just figured the preacher couldn't give it a proper exorcism, so it went to a MB dealer as a trade/sacrificial offering.

Too bad. I've had a couple of early 996s and loved them. A real analogue driving experience. I get the issues with the engine. I was lucky with my my last one in that the IMS was checked during a clutch change and it was knackered. No symptoms at all. One minute it's fine then your engines lunched!
I'm having a break from masers just now and just bought a 996 turbo. We'll see how it goes. So far so good. Still looking at 3200s. Most exciting car I've driven.

I’m sure you’ll be fine with the Mezger engine.

Many years ago when looking for a cayenne for my wife i looked at a few, and they all had engine issues, ticking noises whch were probably engines needing a new block. I bought a cayenne turbo which had dropped a valve and the owner decided not to pay the 12.5k which the dealer in liverpool wanted tp fix it .
I sent it poland to a guy with a feedback of 4 on ebay and it was re engineered using the same block but with cast iron liners put in then new valves etc for about a quarter of the uk charge. The outfit in poland has got much bigger since then

I wouldnt have helped push a maserati onto a low loader like i did with a cayenne with a guy who didnt do english and no receipt
The car was sold with electrical probs but engine did 30,000 no issue, i wouldnt have it with a pride and joy as it did leak oil after and some work was bodged ( said a porsche specialist) but it did work

...to be fair, mine was a 993. That said, it was the car I thought I had always wanted...until I got it. Much more love for the Mas marque!

The Mezger engine’s IMS is in a oil fed plain bearing so not subject to the the same issues as the M96.
Always thought it odd it’s referred to as “Mezger” as he did loads bit like Busso.

I agree that Maserati is something special but my frustration is the lack of manufacturer support and cost/availability of spares. It really is inexcusable. If only Maserati could get its act together and support people that want to keep these wonderful cars on the road. Porsche, however flawed, at least support ownership better. I still fancy a 3200!

I'm sure somewhat related to the ownership merry-go-round, but agreed it is absolutely deplorable. Assume we are all somewhat masochistic or otherwise deranged...whether by Maserati or other factors is up for debate. But if I could only keep one car, from here on out, it's the 4200...

My 'transporter' is getting close to completion. It's for my 'old' cars - not required for the MCV.;)

The trucks are travelling at around 120k/h on the motorways now, so I don't feel safe at 90-100 in the 'oldies. The Fuso 615 will cruise at any legal speed comfortably. Unload at a rally point (usually a country town), and enjoy motoring with similar cars on the back-roads. Happy Days...

looks like what we move the alpaca in...though I don't suggest riding them, in town or country...

Non-start error on the gearbox hydraulic valves; convinced itself it cannot find neutral. But I was able to get at least a false neutral to move it! Tried every reset including freewheeling it down a hill!
