Someone tried to open my car last night at about 0200, neighbour’s doorbell cam picked it up.

Any recommendations for outdoor CCTV or the like? It’s not something I’ve ever looked at so don’t really know where to begin. Would like something that “protects” house drive and garage.
Hik vision 8M PIX Cameras day night with ir vision to what ever distance you need to cover get the hik connect app on your phone to view when out wire iIP network in cat 5e IP network DVR 8way with 2-4 trig bite Hard Drive

We have a system from ANKE, purchased through Amazon. Easy to install and ive updated the cameras recently to newer tech. Hard drive has months of recordings. I would’ve gone wifi cameras until I worked out just how often our Google doorbell ‘drops out’, didn’t fancy running the risk of no recording and an incident.

I had a Nest mains-powered outdoor camera which was excellent, but it failed to reboot after a power cut and its replacement did exactly the same. If you get battery powered cameras don't believe the quoted battery life as that can be very optimistic for real world application.

Hence mine are solar powered and wifi

How did you know it was happening to contact the police?

Nothing will stop these scum, Farmer I follow on you tube today posted cctv image of caravan being stolen today from one of his neighbours, it was in a locked barn, with 2 wheel clamps and a hitch lock, they used considerable force to gain entry, and remove clamps etc, and this happened during the day at 12.45 pm today, but it is near Merseyside, so perhaps no surprise!

Dogs, lots of big scary dogs
Dywanna buya dag?

I have Reolink cameras. Mine are POE but other types available, have microSD card slot, good night vision and 4k. You can stream it to your phone and a NAS. Motion detection and alerts etc. Recording to SD is triggered by motion detection, or cyclically on NAS. Less than a £100 each but they always have deals on.

Another vote for Tapo here, my only caution is their cameras meed good wifi for a reliable connection ((or you have to wire them using Ethernet cables).

I had a Swann 8 channel + 5 camera system installed, hard-wired by Power Over Ethernet (POE) last year by an NIEIC electrician. 4k definition, 2-way audio, flood lights on camera triggered by motion and heat and Infra Red colour camera. 2 TB hard drive - that's one helluva lot of data on permanent recording and even more on motion triggered recording. I have the app on the phone and check when in Spain for a few months daily at what's going on back home. I don't take too much notice of push notifications - every visitor to the front door triggers it.

I also installed professional insurance-approved bollards behind the Porsche and the Gransport.
Not those flimsy things bolted onto the flags. These are solid galvanised steel and sink more than 1 metre into the ground into cement and concrete. The lock cannot be picked. They disappear underground when I want to take the cars out.

I took the advice of the electrician as well as a CCTV firms advice to understand the options. I did not want any cloud-based storage system - you pay a premium for that and the costs escalate in time.

The combination and living in a cul-de-sac with no through-traffic is a very strong deterrent.

I can press a button on the app on my phone and talk to anyone who turns up at the front door through 2-way audio. I went for a full Swann camera at the front door instead of Ring or any other standalone door camera.

Take good advice, take your time, pay the money and get the best system you can afford from the outset. An 8 channel receiver means I have spare ports to add additional cameras down the line if I want to. Picture quality is key - intruders usually are masked up to the hilt, you need the highest resolution if you want to use the footage with Police or other bodies such as insurance.
4k is the highest resolution currently. Having a fuzzy and blurred image is of no use.

@rockits could be your man here.

If you're an Apple user take a loot at cameras that integrate well with Apple HomeKit. There are a ton of options, from those that use mains power, battery, with movement detection, security lights built in etc etc. With video saved to the cloud you can view any activity from anywhere. Similar capabilities are available if you're more of an Android person, or of xo

Are you saying it sucks?

Mine does. It's fabulous. the Internet(1) decided it would called 'Obi-wan Cleanobi' When it is joined by another (to be named Annaclean Skywalker), Obi-wan will be moved upstairs....

C

(1) Clearly a somewhat specific subset of the internet.....
