Check the prices now! For a nicely restored one you can add a nought on that figure. In fact there are several up at prices over £200k now. But at the big money, you want a V8 manual, not a V6 auto.

I bought a red one and a white E-type FHC from a guy who needed the money in Cowes, years ago, when my Dad was living there. They were both average but I made a few quid. Probably should have just garaged them and watched them appreciate!

Straight 6 Auto unless someone has put a Mondeo lump in there.

In our village we have two Garages one with young guys looking after all the general stuff and the other a guy in his 70's who sells a few cars but mainly indulges himself with his classics and amongst old Jaguars he has a lovely blue 400 I'm sure as long as his series 2 XJ6.
Such a Cool looking GT.

A 400 or earlier 365 would be very high on my list but as I expect they are costly to maintain and run. Prices seem all over the place but finding a good one would be better than finding a cheap one needing work.

Don’t buy a project one. The type that goes through an auction at maybe £40k. That’ll cost a fortune to put right.
Buy one that’s already had the work done. For good auto, it’ll be from £50k up, maybe towards £80k at the upper end. The manual version is more, and can be £100k.

I know of a nice series 2 400i auto coming up for sale. Blue, with tan interior. Not sure on price, buy I’ll have a guess at £60k. (By series 2 I mean it has the later dash/interior, like the 412, so leather not wood.)

BTW, the above all assumes U.K. RHD cars. But there are not many of them left now.
