2015 Grandcabrio amp location -no sound from stereo

Hi Guys,
Please can someone help me locate the amplifier for my 2015 Grancabrio.
I've looked on eurospares and it isn't clear. There appears to be 2 amps, one by the center consul glove box and the other I can't make out.

Last year I tucked my car up for the winter (with a workng stereo) and when I got it out in March of this year the sound wasn't working on my stereo, the head unit appeared to work but no sound.

I've just tucked the car up again for the winter (after a summer with no stereo) and thought I'd take the amp out and send it off to be repaired. I was told it was in the boot at the back on the right but it isn't there. I've taken the left side out aswell and there's no amp.

I've got no idea where it is and what the issue is, can anyone give me a clue?

Regards
Adam

I think the amp was only with the 'upgraded' audio.

Short on a speaker will accurately reproduce the symptoms you describe. Personally I think you need some more troubleshooting. YMMV

Thank you for the video, I've seen that one and had the boot apart and it's not there. (Seepic).

I'm up for any more suggestions on fault finding.
I went for the amp because the Maz specialist I took it to for my service was convinced it was the amp, they said it was located in the boot at the back on the right, but I've had this out and it's the BCM for the roof. (See pic)

I think my stereo set up is a standard set up, but really don't know why it would have 2 amps?

As these cars are pretty rare for people to DIY there isn't that much info out there, I don't mind having a go, as it's still just a car after all, but I'd prefer to take as little apart as possible.

Looking at the parts diagram, there are two amps. Item 5, which is the left hand side of the boot, and item 13 which appears to be under the centre console.

It isn’t something odd like the volume knob not working (you should be able to see the volume graphic when you adjust it). After that I think it’s start at the beginning and check fuses (including the one in the back of the head unit) then for lose wires or connections.

Hi,
Was wondering if anyone had anymore information on my stereo.

I've been chatting with a main dealer parts guy and it looks like I don't have the Bose upgrade and so we are thinking the sound comes from the head unit but I'm not sure???

I've taken the head unit out, the fuse in the back is fine and was going to send it off to someone to get looked at but I don't want to send it off if I do have an amp.

If I had a pin out, I would know and i could put a 9v battery on the speaker wires to see that it is getting the sound from the head unit.

I could bell out the speakers but this would mean taking the door card out, which I don't want to do unless I have to.

It's there any more thoughts?

The speaker plugs are ISO standard but....

Does that help?

Possibly not if you have the updated Infotainment

That's amazing, thank you so much, you've saved me a load of grief. I'll apply a 9v battery to the speaker connections to make sure it is a direct output from head unit to speakers. If this is the case, which I think it is, I'll send the head unit off with confidence that it is faulty head unit rather than a hidden amp.

I was going to take off a door panel to bell the wires out, but you've saved me the hassle and potential damage.

Thanks again

PS I'll post the results of what I find and how much it costs to repair.

PS2 I bought a pair of pins to remove the head unit. I had to reduce the size slightly by clamping then in the vice. I think it was 35mm. Then poke them in the 4 holes, put some tension towards either door, like you are spreading them, then pull until it releases by a few mm, then use a plastic pry tool to remove further.
Put a cloth on your gear selector and a rag or cardboard on the bottom edge of the head unit opening, to protect the soft leather.

Glad to have helped. Personally I'd use a multimeter not a 9V battery. Same result. Less chance of damage.

Yeh true, I'll just get a resistance.

Do you think this will be there case even though it will have a crossover as the shakers in the front and back look like they are 2 way. Tweeters and a separate mid with base.

Pretty sure, yes. You should get about 8ish ohms. If you hit an amp it's going to be more like a few hundred I'd have thought. Crossover should be pretty transparent to DC

Hi,
Just thought I'd update you on my stereo issue. I confirmed that it has an internal amp that powers my speakers as I get 4 ohms at the car harness for the speakers and also connected a weak 9v battery to there sisters cables and got a clicking noise.
I got my Dad to have a quick look at the amp in the head unit for anything obvious as he used to fix TVs and videos for a living but has since retired, but nothing obvious.

So I've sent it off to cartronics for repair and they have said that there is an internal clock error and the part would be £2250 + vat.

I am still in shock....

Does anyone have an old head unit left over from an upgrade?

Or what is my cheapest option to upgrade mine? The annoying thing is I rarely listen to the **** thing.

Any help would be appreciated

Ouch! A used one would probably be cheaper. Not sure about how they would swap.

Ouch indeed ... maybe try Eurospares? They have dismantled just about every model year so there is a good chance they will have something suitable

Hi,
Yeh I'm amazed at the cost for the part not even the price for a new head unit.
Yeh good shout on the europarts, I'll try them.

The other option is a unit from AliExpress, but need to do a bit more research on that.

Ideally I would like to keep it stock, even though it is pants.

Thank you for your advice, the issue is that I presume there is no line outs as the pin out drawing indicates speaker connections or amp. I'm not getting any sound from this so I wouldn't get any sound to amplifier, unless I'm missing something?
I'm also not sure if this internal clock (not sure what this does) is in the main unit out the amp part?

Sorry, mis understood. You checked the amp in the head. I thought you were checking the external amps :(

I wonder what part it is they're quoting for.
