A huge thank you to CatmanV2 in helping to make our Maserati engagement road trip a reality!

Hey guys,

A couple of months ago I posted about looking into hiring a Ghibli to do a road trip in Scotland with, where it was my intention to propose to my lovely girlfriend. CatmanV2 - to my astonishment and delight - offered to lend me his Granturismo for the trip. After some headaches with insurance, we found a way it could be done (thanks to Adrian Flux's Flexcover scheme.) So Wednesday before last, I got the train down to Essex and drove back up in a beautiful Maserati! Couldn't believe it! I'd kept all of this a secret, my other half thought we were going to stay with my folks in Wales for a long weekend, but when I asked if she wanted to put her bag in the car and handed her the keys to the Mas - well, to say there was a look of shock is something of an understatement!! She had no idea that I'd booked us a few nights at the fabulous and breathtaking Glengorm Castle on the Isle of Mull, and driving up to Oban was the most comfortable and enjoyable eight hours I think I have ever spent in a car. The car was a dream, and she was instantly smitten with it. If you're ever on the lookout for an unimaginably romantic break North of the border, look no further than Glengorm.

Getting it on and off the CalMac ferry was a little hairy but in the end there was plenty of clearance, and though driven carefully it had no problem with Mull's small and sometimes bumpy roads. Though we did give it the beans a little bit between Craig Nur and Tobermory on the nice big road! The fun button was also pushed on several occasions, and what a cracking sound! Nothing else like it :D.

On Saturday we drove around the North of the island just exploring at our leisure, and when we stopped at Eas Fors Waterfall, I got down on one knee and she sad yes! Many times and enthusiastically! The trip really was the stuff of dreams, and I'll always remember it.

Here are some of the best photos - featuring the bride to be, of course ;). I'd like to say a huge and very public THANK YOU to CatmanV2, who's generosity toward a stranger is quite simply a shining light in the world. A very well deserved bottle of 18 year old malt whisky from the Tobermory distillery was the least I could do, and there'll still be another little something in the post soon for you mate! Cannot possibly thank you enough, and needless to say the Mas was utterly bewitching, and I've never been more resolved to have one parked outside one day - once we're done renovating :D!

Thanks to all who contributed on the original thread, and wished me luck. Luck was most certainly with me!

Cheers,

Will.

Congratulations to you both, I said else where, Chris, what a generous offer. It’s still good to know there are people who offer the type of community spirit we used to have when I was a lad still in this modern age, as it’s sadly lacking now, I guess that’s what this community offers, great people always willing to do that little bit extra for each other..long may it continue

That's rather nice of C what a true gent

Now you are obliged to buy it off him in 2020 when he upgrades to a stradale

Thanks all! The ring was made by Neil Rayment in Cardiff. I designed it in CAD with my fiancee's input, and then Neil made a few tweaks, 3D printed the wax master, cast it and set the stones. Fantastic service throughout and magnificent craftsmanship! She knew it was coming but had no idea when or how, I think what I lacked in spontaneity I made up for in setting and surprise ;)!!

And indeed, C is the man!

Nice one Catman and congrats Will. An expensive trip though as once the wedding is out of the way, you’ll be searching for a Maserati to bring into your life. I hope you brought earplugs for that car! It’s pretty epic.

So nice to read such a positive post. Congratulations to you both.

And as you say; a tremendously generous gift from Catman. I had a similar offer from Peter in Scotland some years ago (his yellow Ghibli 2) which I was unable to take up the offer...great members on here.
