Hi all,

picking up the first thread on this new forum :)

I'd like to share with you my Alfa Romeo Sprint, track day car build, which I had previously started elsewhere and was never completed.

As this is an on-going project still, I'll post some pictures of the process so far to get you guys up to date, and then keep posting as the project goes along :)

So, first of all, bought the car off a junk yard, with no engine, gearbox, wheels etc, stacked on top of 2 other cars, ready to be pressed.

Pictures of when I got it....

I had a spare front bonnet which I put on as well as a front wing which was badly damaged by the forklift at the junk yard, and I quickly repaired the surprisingly very little rusty A pillars and sealed them up.

Then I bought a nice set of wheels I found, and the story begins :)

So the plan was :

Make a 4x4 Sprint with Alfa 33 P4 parts (gearbox, propshaft, rear diff) and power it with a Supercharged 16v engine out of a non catalytic Alfa 33.

First job was to fit the rear diff/axle so I could start making some process....

As you may know, the normal rear axle of the Alfa 33 is angled, so the suspension holds on from a lower point.
Therefore the top mount plates of the Sprint needed to be relocated to a higher point, as well as the shock absorbers which moved about 15 cm up.

The width of the axle was also slightly bigger, so in addition with the big offset wheels, and because it was meant to be a track day car, Wide body came to mind ;)

The amount of rust on the rear wheel arches, rear sill sections and rear inner wheel arches, made the decision of chopping off a large part of the rear panels and make my own.

The tail of the car was then affected obviously, so given I didnt intend to have bumpers on the car either, and because I needed to reinforce the back from chopping the wheel well as well to fit the diff, I boxed in the rear as well.

The rear wide body wings, required a more balanced shape, so wider front wings were made/modified and new sills fabricated

Finally, and after loads and loads of work, it started to shape up, just about the way I wanted it to look like ;)

Front lip was out of a GTV6 , which was cut in half and widened as well to reach the sides of the now wide body Sprint.

Rear Louvres are plastic, and supposed to be 6C replica

So now the rear work began on the body....

Some additional modifications were made, including gearbox mounts, propshaft mounts etc, rear wheel arc repair kits from a Ford Capri were bought and lipped out my DIY rear panels.

Hour after hour of welding, filling, sanding, bleeding fingers and frustration... brought me to this :

Then, after seeing that I no longer had the time or level of expertise to finish off the car for a paint job, I decided to pay a professional to finish off what I started bodywize.

Meanwhile , here are some pictures of mechanical work , a fully rebuilt 16v engine, propshaft work, mounting work, locking of the electromagnetic coupling for the rear wheel drive etc....

The front drive shafts were eventually dismantled , kept the outer bit and bolted them on the wheel hubs to keep the bearings from falling apart, removed the diff of the front wheel drive from the gearbox, and closed up the front drive shaft openings to reduce weight.

The car is now at a friends Valeting Centre, being polished up and getting ready to put some stickers on it....

Got some specially ordered OMP rollcage pipes for it, and booked a complete re-wiring for it as well, but all that has to wait, coz after the stickers, its exhaust time, and if I'm lucky I'll be able to get this done in a decent enough shape so I can take it at a car show on November 16.

Still need to fit the rear spacers for the rear wheels to come out a bit more, finalize the front grille and fit it, hamerrite paint the floor panels inside, and.... fit a seat ....

Here's a sneak peak (photoshopped of course) of whats about to follow in the next days ..... photo.jpg

I talked to the guy yesterday, he missed a couple of measurements, and he asked me to go measure the front bonnet again for him.

It's going to be in a few days, probably sometime next week, which is good enough for me as I still have other bits and pieces to sort :)

That's fantastic. Not *100%* sure about the back. Function defining form for sure, but very *very* impressed.
Mrs Catman has a 1.7 which is the most fun on 4 wheels I ever had :)

Cheers :)

The back was indeed a need, plus it looked like Mickey Mouse without the rear being at the same level as the rear side panels.

I hope that when the exhausts are fitted and after the stickers are done, it will get the attention away from the boxy shaped bum :p

* Re the rear end, note that the fuel tank had to be removed as well, so now I have a racing tank inside the car
