Any love for the Dino 308GT4...?

I know, I know - it 'doesn't have enough cylinders' and isn't a 'proper' Ferrari but these Bertone gems have long been a favourite of mine, my post being prompted by this '75 example appearing for sale on my doorstep....

99570

I can't afford it, I've got nowhere to put it and being so 'cheap' it would need a thorough inspection but I feel very drawn to it all the same. When launched in late '73 it was considered one of the best handling cars of the time and by all accounts, in some respects, it still is. I don't care if it's resale red - it's still badged as a Dino, it doesn't have the more common crema interior and I want it! :p

Will one of you kind gentlemen put me out of my misery and buy it please...? ;)

Have any of you ever owned one...?

I have recently started to warm to them having not really liked them before. I don't think that they photograph that well but are way better in the flesh.
I don't have any first hand experience of them but this one has clearly been enjoyed, driven and well used
If you don't really want to buy it, best you don't go and look at as you know what will happen ...

Good luck with not buying it

It's a V8 what's it's missing? 206 and 246 Dino's were V6s. And the 308 Dino was all Ferrari, just not by Pininfarina.

I like them and have done for a while, I agree they don't photograph well but I think they have aged very well and are another design that probably looks better now than when new, always loved the 308 GTB & GTS but in the flesh I think these (GT4) have a certain style / coolness that maybe the others miss, a less obvious / conventional beauty. As for the badge? Well its more exclusive, and is also worn by one of the most desirable "Ferrari's" in many peoples eyes and that has two less cylinders again!

If you just looked at the for sale ads for them today you'd think they all left the factory in Rosso but that is far from the truth....

The prototype out and about on test....

And the original clay model at Bertone...

I love these and was very close to buying one before I decided on the Testarossa, had a mint condition Grigio 1986 Ferrari Mondial already plus the others inc. Maserati GC…. love the wedge shape of the Dino 308GT.

This example seems a bit overpriced though and with high mileage, so wouldn’t be an investment…

Love these for some reason and always have. Think I dreamed of one when they we £10-12k but didn’t quite have the means or space to buy one. Now I’m reluctant at current prices not because they don’t represent good value but I feel annoyed that I didn’t buy one for £10k!

I had a chance to sample a nice Gt4 that belongs to a friend. It a nice little car, easy to drive and makes nice sound. But performance felt a bit underwhelming to me. Personally I would stretch to a 355 or 360 if I were after a ferrari V8.

There’s an awful lot of filler in that car. The flares have a swage line that runs all the way down the front to the bottom of the sill.

You have a good eye and coming to look at it, the front chrome bumper also has had a bump as it’s not straight behind the number plate area… a little indented and not parallel… of course can be replaced but it’s a £1200 part + rubber £600

This was the one I went to see back in 2017, good history but needed £££s spending on it. Front plastic boot and spare wheel carrier was oddly smashed up with a hole in it and various things which would bug me, including grazed rubber bumper trim and body work needed tlc

When I was a member of the Classic Car Club in the early noughties I had a 308GTB for the weekend, it was incredibly slow and the speedo over read by about 20 mph at 70, but still an occasion to drive. They also had a 308GT4 which I had actually booked but was broken. That car went on to be the Wheeler Dealers car above. Always liked the GT4 more than the GTB.
