i love the brera, sad though as the only one id have, apart from the prodrive s is the diesel......

this is perfect for me as i need a diesel for work and one that will thrill me driving in.even if it is 1/2mile away, the 118d might be going to christina so she can have 4 doors for when the baby comes and i have been looking at these as work provides an allowance of £400pm so can get one and run it easy.......

what do you guys think??

Be nice if the seller could clean it before advertising the car. Looks nice, red suits it very well, would not buy it though.

Dont like them enough to buy it, much prefer the Spyder model, Brera looks awkward at the rear, too heavy.

Giulietta is a great looking car, so classy especially in red or black. Brera just looks a little dated now IMO, would prefer a 159 if i needed the 4 seats.

Do it Dem, great for your needs...More exotic than a 159....a proper coupe unlike the latest range......better looking than than a Giullietta...........Put them all side by side and its the rera that gets the attention.....Giullietta is noce but just another hatch back...Love them but a bit boring at the back....Brera looks great from all angles......

Do you *really* need a diesel?

When I was looking for S-Type Jags, I thought I'd get a nice economical diesel for the commute between London-Bristol. But the diesel was about £3k more expensive than a petrol V8. I woked out I could buy a petrol V8 for £3k cheaper and it would only cost me £1200/yr more a year in fuel! Sometimes diesel is a false economy, you can actually have a nice car with a proper engine, spend the money on fuel rather than the overpriced diesel in the first place. My 2p worth.

That Brera is a great looking car, no mistake, locvely whels and the colour suits it. Would sound odd chugging along though :(

Lewis, you think about the diesel/petrol debate in exactly the same way as I do. I have the discussion on a weekly basis with a few of my petrolhead friends. Even though they really appreciate their cars, it just doesn't sink in with a lot of folk. They would rather pay £3k+ more for the car so they're happy every time they fill up. Many people are happy to 'forget' about purchase price and depreciation just because their new diesel does 50mpg. It's crazy and sometimes I become quite irate about it, but then I remind myself that for every person who goes down the diesel route, it's one less buyer for the petrol cars; thus, forcing prices downwards for us true petrolheads.

I have just shown my best mate accurate calculations regards cost of a 05 GS v 08 A5 3.0TDi over 12 months. The GS is cheaper to run, but as it does half the mpg, he's just not willing to get his head round the fuel thing! As it happens, my Mum's VW Polo cost more to run than my last 4200 did!

Long may the majority's blinkered outlook continue, keeps Maseratis affordable for many of us on here and certainly allows us to retain exclusivity.

Absolutely agree on the diesel front. Diesel costs more than petrol, and you can get 60-70mpg out of a small petrol engine.

I do 30% of my miles in the GranSport, 70% in the KIA - averaging around 50mpg for all journeys. The fuel reimbursement from a couple of work journeys in the Picanto pay for a tankful of petrol for the GS. Can't be bad!

Get down to a car auction if you are after something for work. If you are going to be doing 20 or 30k of miles per year then getting a diesel makes perfect sense.

i hear what your saying reg the diesels........

but, in this case this brera is CHEAPER than the petrol so i should buy it right??

ill be doing 15k a year just for work and then i might aswel use it for my jobs aswel so 20k is doable.....

Hahahaha pat.....i hear you

I might change my mind then stick to bmw for diesels and an alfa for a good petrol engine....but it says something that the brera, spyder, 159 is best in diesel form as is the GT.....

Matt, MAF help me.....

Exactly - that is the only way a diesel makes sense Vs petrol, if you do mega-miles. Average punter on 10k/yr or less looking for a second hand car; nice big-engined petrol every time if you enjoy driving and want a lot of toys for your money. The bulk of people don't enjopy driving so don't care, as Dicky says, it's all about what happens at the pumps. But the sad thing is they don't enjoy driving becaue they've convinced themselves they need 50mpg so get a slouch of a motor.

I had a 159 1.9 diesel which sounded like a bus, then a 2.4jtdm which sounded much better, although it still had the distinctive diesel chug. If it's cheaper than the petrol ones, I doubt it'll be there long, cheapest diesel Brera in the UK.

Most people are absolutely stupid when it comes to motoring costs. Normal mileage punters would happily pay through the nose to buy a diesel car to save £10 when they fill up. Madness! Everyone asks what the mpg is, not what your monthly payment is. The amount of people I know who have sold their perfectly fine petrol car and shelled out £10k+ to change to a diesel 'to save money'.
