The turbo gets covered in soot from the exhaust gases anyway ,whether the egr is allowed to open or shut.
At least if you shut the egr on a clean (possibly from new) engine then you dont get inlet manifold,cylinder head ports ,valves and even piston crowns covered in that muck.We have had cars recovered that the AA or RAC who thought the engines had seized,they had simply stopped being able to turn because the top of the pistons /cylinder were full of the 5h itt.

We ended up rebuilding my brother's 147 jtdm because it was full of soot;

Map sensor? What? This is supposed to be sensing something?!!
The inlet manifold was practically full to the brim too. But fortunately you can iirc split the manifold and clean all the carcinogenic soot (nice) out of it.

Correct me if I am wrong but these DPF systems are good when working [for the environment] but do no favours whatsoever to the engine and engine management system. Furthermore short journeys and modern diesels don't seem to go together. These diesels must be driven fairly briskly and for some distance rather than stop start journeys.

I wonder if some people choose a diesel for the wrong reasons. ie thinking of diesel units as providing economy and robustness. But only needing a car for local daps to shops and 3 mile commutes etc.

Its just my opinion that is all. :)

Smoke has virtually disappeared during acceleration.
