European Super League

It’s quite amusing watching Neville and carragher laying into the proposals of the money men. They didn’t complain getting their personal millions on the back of big money coming into the English game.

Where did they think it was going to end up? Don’t take the outrageous wages and then complain about the state of the game. These owners are all about the money, always have been. This kind of thing was bound to happen in the end, it’s tragic for football, but these owners just see it as any buisness. Fans are irrelevant to them, as is the concept of having to earn your status every year.

They had an expert on competition law on PM on R4. Was hilarious the lack of preparation Evan Davis must have done given he was utterly speechless when the expert stated that a new league was likely to be seen to increase competition.

Still, more fun than the worried thread :)

Tbh the champions league is all about the big 10, always has been.
As long as the premier league stays I don’t care how the Euro stuff goes and being a Spurs fan I’d much rather be in the super league than not as non SL euro football will be on the Europe league level from now on

I actually could not disagree more with the above.

MONEY
When has it not been about money?
Players earning £350k a week - that's OK, but somehow this is not?
Players costing Clubs £100+ million

UEFA, LEAGUE'S REVENUE
If these 12 Clubs can get £400m each per season how much do you think UEFA and each League (e.g. Premier League) gets each season.
Do you think all of that HUGE revenue is going to grass roots!!! Of course it's not.
Look at how corrupt Platini at UEFA was.

INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT
The Big Clubs have built their international popularity, through doing foreign tours. Buying players from certain countries. Openings shops abroad.
Massive levels of foreign marketing.
Who benefits, the League or UEFA. The Club's that are massive abroad don't see anywhere near the foreign TV revenue that they bring in

PREMIER LEAGUE FORMATION
The Premier League was formed in a various similar way to the ESL.

FOOTBALL IS ABOUT MONEY
Being astonished the modern football is all about money is approximately 20 years too late.

We don't seem to mind exiled corrupt Thai leaders laundering their money through the Premier League.

All that is different this time, is people who have lots of and lots of easy money, are going to lose it. That's why they're up in arms.

I DO NOT AGREE with the ESL, but, I struggle with the shock people are experiencing. As most who are shocked are benefiting from the current system and don't want it changed. Or, they should really know football has been all about money since Wimbledon moved to Milton Keynes.

Yup, joking apart I’m with you onthis.
Money talks and frankly who would these top clubs rather be playing.....the best of the best or the dross and the rest.

Seems to me a new “Prexit” thread would be an excellent place to discuss all this ;)

Even though I'm a United fan, I'm a football fan, I like to see the game played well and that successful teams rise to the top. The league system is about meritocracy.
Yes you can have a lot of money to buy success but more importantly it takes financial and directorial stability from the board.
Chairmen forget that it took 5 years for Sir Alex to change United from a private drinking club into FA Cup winners.

I've never quite figured the fascination for watching overpaid prima donnas kick a pig's bladder around a field but each to their own, and if fans are happy to fund the extravagant lifestyles of the players that's up to them. What I think is really sad, though, is the fall from grace that said prima donnas have to endure when their careers are over and they have to join the working population; I even heard a story of one who thought he was getting a job as an ambassador for Krispy Kreme, only to find that it was an entirely different kind of donut - now that's tragic :(

I think Spurs will stay in and invite other top Euro teams like Nottingham Forest, twice winners remember, so that they have chance of winning something in Europe.
