Not bad for 84/87 – a six-cylinder BMW 325i had 168bhp if I remember correctly

Out of the box, sure. That's got a turbo on it, though.

But, no Wiki backs it up. 130PS in standard form. Wow.

Felt like more :D

Puts the standard car about on par with a 318is/320i. And they are rather light...

That was about right.. stick a turbo on a 105 series 2 litre Alfa motor that's about what you get, don't forget they were only 8v heads
Same as the 1970's BMW 2002 Ti

The race cars though had around 220hp

A standard 2.0 Giulietta is about 130BHP and 1100KGs, mine has a few tweaks and is about 145BHP. The road turbos were rated 170BHP and as dave mentions race cars were upward of 200BHP not bad for early 80s.

Even the later 155 Q4 Turbo which had the 16V Integrale lump was only rated at 190BHP somewhat down from the Lancia variant which had 225BHP. This engine is much more tunable, mine had just shy of 300BHP before it blew with standard internals, hopefully the newly rebuilt version will have a tad more but on much stronger and therefore more reliable internals.

That was just before the Sierra Cosworth era kicked off, Alfas were done, just like everyone else!
