I think its trying too hard and £100k plus, no thanks I'd rather have a Fezza 550 or 575, however I do like the fact that Alfa are pushing forward on their heritage, after all the original GTA / GTam were silly money in the day and are even more so now the main difference they were built to race and they were welcome at most touring car events unlike this which is just a fast road / track toy at best.

I’d 100 per cent choose the Giulia. However, the Ghibli isn’t in the same segment appeal, really, and can understand the Ghibli’s appeal and why people would choose that instead. Like comparing bananas and plantain; similar but one is rather more endowed than the other and serves a very different purpose...
I hear what you’re saying, my point was simply that if Maserati insist on keeping saloon cars in their lineup they should make them more exciting.

A Ghibli and or QP trofeo seems a no brainer; I think it’s fair to say Ghibli and Giulia are basically chasing the same segment (junior exec cars), albeit at different price points. In the Ghiblis case why on Earth you’d build a 5/E/A6 competitor and not an M/AMG/RS equivalent version I don’t understand. Alfa clearly got the message

A Ghibli GTS (inc Trofeo) is due as a run out special before they replace the current version, so may provide more of a competitor to this. It will be £140k + at asking........

I like that. Especially working back doors in a 2 seat car - that’s properly mental. If the 2 seat Strad is a little strange, a 2 seat 4 door saloon is plain bonkers.

Weld up the rears, Dukes of Hazard stylee, paint Dorset's equivalent of the Confederate Flag on the roof and you can be the south coast's first good ol' boy doing moonshine runs, Ewan.

Personally, I also quite like it. Alfa's answer to the Project 8 Jag. The rear arch extensions might be better painted, but I'm being picky. I'd not have one, though. Too in yer face.

Is it just me or is this the ugliest car Alfa have made in the last 30 years, what have they done to it?

It’s no secret that I was never a fan of the styling, this just compounds it imho.

for years they have made beautiful cars with mediocre running gear. They then get the running gear right and fumble the bit they are brilliant at.

You just have to love the Italians!

Have to disagree with you on this one!!............I think their latest designs are quite stunning and aggressive. A bit too much going on with this one, but the overall design is sublime!

It’s really difficult to decide whether the engineering or design team get the car after the lunch bottle of Chianti.

When the F1 came out one of the press asked Ron Dennis if they were competing with Ferrari, he replied, “no, we don’t have anyone at McLaren who can weld that badly.” McLaren don’t appear to have anyone who can glue stuff though!

I rather like it but the price (if true) is ridiculous ...... that's an M5 and an Arial Atom (and change for some track days / tyres)

It won't be £150k. Closer to £90k I'd guess.

Agreed, the Quadrifoglio can be had for £75k so I can't see it being over £100k.

I don't mind it though, I think it's an ugly car to start with & this doesn't make it any worse - there's a compliment in there somewhere

The 'stick on plastic arches' are carbon BTW..
This is the bonkers GTAm you're looking at...And if it were more body colour coded, it wouldnt look quite as bonkers as it does. The GTA isnt quite as Honda Civic.
That said, I quite like it...You know its a great car under all that noise !

I nearly bought a Guilia 280 last year but decided on a Golf R instead. Having been kicking myself a bit but the Guilia is so gorgeous. A second hand QF is only £40k so may have to look again. Decision decisions

I have to say, I quite like that. I’d take the GTAm interior with the GTA rear wing.

Saw a Giulia here in Dublin, and there's one in the window at AR Blanchardstown, they look tiny. Spose everything does compared to the QP.

Have you seen the VRT on bringing one in from the UK? I can't believe that Ireland can have such a anti open market rule in the EU but then again they have anti competitive company tax rules too

The one I saw (at the Circle-K at the airport) was a white bobby-basic, 2.0 litre are they? Not sure of the one in Blanche, except it's blue!

They get away with VRT cos its a registration fee, still a con though. Denmark do it too, 180% +20% VAT on every car. Makes a Ford Ka at £50k car! Even so, everyone I know has a car bought in UK and imported, the VRT is less then the savings of buying a UK over an Irish car. Nearly all Audis and Beemers!

Plastic bags (my bugbear) 90c in Centra now.
