horrific crash

Not in this day and age apparently.
Seem to recall one of the London Bridge atrocities where there were injured and dying lying on the ground and saw a woman run over to one victim, and I assumed was going to help, and took out her phone and photographed/videoed the poor soul on the ground and then walked away.
Too many people looking for their 5 minutes of fame at any price or do they see life as just a video game?

I like to have enough faith in my own humanity to believe that in such a situation I would remove the phone from the clutches of its dead-eyed owner and throw it in the river. As I have little in the way of first-aid skills it's probably the most useful thing I could do to help.

Something I don't enjoy about certain motorsport spectators is that they watch hoping to see the cars have crashes... It is not a blood sport ffs... But this sort of attitude has been around long before smart phones.

It is inevitable that cars will come together and it is part of the excitement creating some weird and wonderful results (Macau gp last year the 1st and 2nd place car took each other out on the last corner of the last lap) but freak accidents like this are tragic. The FIA needs to continue driving forward track safety... These serious incidents have become a little too frequent over the last 5 years aa the cars have become faster

Maybe the young lady in question was far too inexperienced to be there in the first place!
Just a thought

First time I’ve ever seen a woman reverse park at that speed; she’s got skills.

Yeah all you got to do is turn up on Sunday with a helmet and you are off. It's formula 3 they are all "inexperienced" young racing drivers... That said they have a **** load more experience than me

Bottom line is the car should not have gone off track in the way it did this calls track safety into question

That is and always was the last race of the season for F3, A nice jolly to the far east and all that..
There was most likely a few drivers in that race experience wise who shouldn't have been there!
But that's for the FIA to sort out..

Agree, this is 2018 and to get into a race these days sent easy. This isn't 1970......Listening to reports and the footage it would seem it's track safety driven but sure a full investigation will take place.

that's very good news, looking at how the car planted itself on to the steel sheets thought she may have had some life changing injuries, hopefully it hasn't put off the race scene

Technology has moved on a pace over recent years mainly driven from the top down, proper safety cells and safety gear in all single seaters and tin tops these days at give drivers a lot more protection which makes accidents like this survivable. Along with top level medical teams on site and in hospitals further reduce the impact of such accidents.

All that said she is a very lucky young lady.

the problem is this was a very bizarre and unusual accident, completely flying over the high fence and there were all sorts of different factors that could have caused serious, if not fatal injuries, steel poles that could have skewed her, landing upside down on objects within an area that was not a safety crash area etc

That's my point, the kerbs flicked her upwards. It was these that complicated matters. Had they not been there she would have stayed on the ground and hit the frangible barriers which would have dissipated the energy along with deformation of the car via suspension and other peripheral components.
If you look at the track the kerbs are superfluous, there's a barrier on the inside too.
