Caveat Emptor!

Project car up for anyone? On auction tomorrow at BCA.
Jayemm reviewed it... I think he's treading on a few feet.

CBA to read a 20 page thread or listen to JayEmm for half an hour .... would you mind summarising :)

Blimey it’s like having children!

Oct 2020 Bloke buys FF from super car dealer. Car has remaining Fez warranty

Feb 2021 Has puncture and is recovered to Ferrari dealer. They find a selection of things wrong not covered by the Fez warranty.

They’re not massive issues but its £7k

Goes to seller and says please help me sort.

Selling dealer tells him to sod off and that “they’ll send the boys round”

Buyer asks seller for pre-sale inspection done by a Ferrari Main dealer, seller won’t hand it over.

Car is fixed without sellers help.

It gets all legal.

Dec 2021 car is part ex for McLaren

Now up at a McLaren dealer.

Jayemm goes to look at it and find it needs work.

McLaren realise they’ve made a mistake and punt it to BCA

Orginal selling dealer threatens to send the boys round again.

Edited for clarity.

Bought from an unnamed dealer in Swadlincote in Oct 2020, issues discovered in Feb 2020. So presumably some way beyond the statutory time limit for rejecting a car. Seems like that car dealer in question had a dodgy reputation to begin with.

Under the consumer protection act you have 6 months, so just within time frame for using that, always makes me laugh when dealers say '3 months warranty' some of us know better!

He originally asked for it from the seller but he wouldn’t give it. He then asked the Fez dealer and they quoted GDPR.
It was odd that when Jayemm looked at it, the Maclaren dealer did not want him to have an inspection- thankfully he did

They love that. I was refused main dealer service records / receipts because they had the previous owners address on.

And Maserati destroyed all of my receipts for my GT when they bought that back from me.

He does specifically say he doesn’t think there is any foul play from McLaren but seems they had a lot of interest and didn’t want the hassle.

I agree - he does make that clear (perhaps avoiding any legal recourse from them) -
I can’t see the likes of Dickie G making a fuss about someone wanting an inspection.

Thanks for the correction.

Just having a quick read through the thread, it appears that the supplying dealer is not a very nice chap.

Comedy of errors, but a great insight into the potential pitfalls of “super” car ownership. The only word of caution on these types of internet posts / threads is misinterpretation. However, the main theme of what has occurred is clear.

A positive of being on this forum is that PPI is frequently mentioned to do when buying a car. This type of scenario really rams this home. Also great PR for Jayemm and with the hits he’ll get from this story he should be able to buy a sorted FF lol! (Fair play)

Agreed on all points.

I like James as a presenter. He seems always to speak his mind without just gushing over everything.

This is why I started the thread. It's becoming quite disconcerting that certain dealers of high end cars are no different to Arthur Daley. The stakes are just higher.

This Only Makes His Atrocious Reputation Tarnished, Let Everyone Yabber!

I don't suppose that sticking a nylon stocking into the gearbox works any more?
Fascinating and very cautionary tale for us all.
