The thing about Le Mans is the Exposition Car Park, you can wander around and spot an eclectic mix of classic cars from the obvious Porsche/Beetles to the Common as Muck Aston DB5 or 6.
Now a Daimler Dart, is a rare beast, this one seemed to follow me round all weekend, whether it was at expo or mulsanne it kept popping up.

The maroon DB5 is one of the many cars in the collection of Martin Overington, the owner of the HdeF. He races a supercharged Bentley like the ones that won LM back in the 20’s and will be participating in the classic in a few weeks time.

Self made man and a good mate. Complete with tatoos, he is the antithesis of what you would expect a vintage Bentley racer to look like. Bought the hotel from 3 generations of the Pasteau family 10 years ago and spent millions on the refurb, just due to his passion for the place

He’s also got a 962. And is the first recipient of the SM bloke/bird of the week for this:

(I’m going for pedant of the week, the supercharged Bentleys didn’t win at Le Mans.)

I thought the last 2 of their wins (excluding the 2003 one) were in speed 6’s with the supercharger out front, but very happy to be corrected. My knowledge is better from the AM participants mid 50’s onwards and my pre war knowledge is far more sketchy. Either way that’s a classic photo with the Bentley pulling the 962!

The supercharged cars weren’t reliable enough to win Le Mans and were based on the 4 cylinder 4.5 litre not the speed six. But yes the last two pre war Bentley wins were by Speed Sixes (not supercharged). The first was a 3 litre and then a 4.5. You could also add Lagonda’s win as WO was instrumental in that too

Great place. Love it there. You are a lucky man to have your apartment opposite. I bet there are some great vehicles that visit through the year.

PS one more bit of useless trivia Glen Kidston who won the last one is related to Simon Kidston the car dealer and Kath Kidston the flannel dealer.

Started watching the race on Eurosport... I feel that this might take a while. Still it's far better than love island...which is why Crud requires wipeable sofas...

Sorry his (little) friend...
