Remember when I used to live in Tokyo there was one parked up in a courtyard near Nishi-Azabu crossing - amazing vehicles in the flesh.

84 to about 88 there used to be a white one sat in a showroom on the corner of Rainsford Road Chelmsford (flats now), appalling build quality but a poster car if ever there was... Aimed purely at rich Arabs!

8 mpg therefore has a 76 gallon fuel (345litres if UK Gallons) tank giving it a range of 600 miles at a cost of £410 ..err no, not for me.

I think I’m right in saying Sir Drummond Bone President of the U.K. Maserati Club had one (or has one). Legend has it that he turned up for a Committee meeting, parked in the Hotel’s underground car park and revved the nuts off it. This caused all the club members upstairs (no doubt in the bar) to evacuate the building in a hurry wondering what the **** was going on.

I wasn’t there, but having met him a couple of times, I can imagine him doing it. He used to race a gorgeous Maserati Barchetta and every new Maser he bought was bright banana yellow. Chances are an SM owner might have one of them? Think he even had a yellow QP...

An alternative, more affordable vehicle would be the Mitsubishi Pagero Evolution, Mitsubishi built 2,500 to qualify for the Paris Dakar Rally. A mint one less than 20k, rather tempting...

I rather like the evolutions, must be the box arches and almost bought one a couple of years ago, cant remember if there were any uk ones or were they just sold in Japan
