Maserati GS v Nissan GTR

Given that these were public roads, what is there to suggest that the GS was making a serious effort to keep up? Perhaps he was respecting the posted speed limit.

Do we know who is driving the GS? Whoever you are, you made that GTR look better, then it is.
Still think the GTR is a brill machine though.

Ive been in that very position on the way down to Le Mans and blatantly the GTR toyed with me for over half an hour up to speeds of 150mph , each time when parralell at 100mph he could drop a couple of gears and there was no way even flooring it and keeping then GS to trhe limiter could i catch him to 150 , its a very fast car and we must take a deep bow to that engine and gearbox , but at the end of the day its still a NIssan albeit a very quick one , but Maserati still scores a lot higher points on the kudos stakes ....... but i would dearly love to own one for a while that said

The GTR has anywhere between 100-160 hp up on the GS and a significant power to weight advantage. Not really in the same league considering its been know to lap the Nordschleife as quick as an Enzo.

i had a GTR for a week......lovely....i tried to get one of you to test drive it (you know who you are) but it wasnt meant to be

i have not driven a GTS to compare, all i can say is, you cant compare them.
GTR is by far the fastest thing i have ever driven and cant see anything under 60k keeping up........

Let's face it, there are very few things that can keep up with a well driven GTR.

100% agreed! My eldest son was keen to look at GTRs while I was drooling over Masers, but it's a totally different proposition. The Maser oozes style and makes you grin like a fool. The GTR I would love to drive round in for a while but it's not something I'd buy, however fast it accelerates or goes round corners.

Just tell him saying we've got a Nissan, doesn't sound half as exciting as saying OH we've got a Maserateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I told him that deep down, where it really matters, it's just a Datsun and that my Grandad loved his Datsun Cherry. That fixed him. :)

Can't agree with that. Soulless? Yes but so are German cars. Competent? Absolutely, and then some. THE best pound to performance car there is. Bar none. Technically brilliant.

But it has great road presence. If you see one coming up behind you, you will notice it.

Technically brilliant, blisteringly quick, phenomenal value... yes to all those. But even without ever having driven a GTR I know I would far rather drive - or even just stare at - a slower, more expensive Maserati.

Agreed!
I'd rather drink Moët than some plink plink fizz.......
Can't put a price on exclusivity.
The end.

Interesting debate for me.

I have a very good friend replacing an RS4 with a GTR. He always asks me about the Maserati - running costs, reliability, practicality .... As I keep saying to him - it's a state of mind. If you get the trident then nothing else will come close. I have no desire to be the quickest, loudest (ok a set of Larinis would add to the already massive pleasure), or most technically leading edge. I just like being a Maseratisti - a little more reserved, still bloody quick and just a different class.

He will still go for the GTR (already looking at 650bhp upgrades), but did admit a couple of weeks ago that he had a tinge of jealousy knowing that he was missing that special Maserati only feeling.

Each to their own: 180mph; sub 5 second 0-60 and 396bhp. More importantly: Giugiaro styling; Ferrari built V8; passionate fellow owners; exclusivity and under sated class - I think the Gransport ticks plenty of boxes.
