Mile's old 4200 alive and well

I was at the garage I use to look after the M3..Forza West in Chepstow.....Last weekend I was talking to the owner as he had a 04 plate 4200 in for a service....... Some may have heard me say before that Stuart the owner was a BMW Master Tech and also has been a mechanic for TVR, Lotus, Ferrari and Maserati before setting up on his own.........The 4200 lloked familier but the exhaust was too quiet to be Mile's old car. Was in again today and looking at the number plate it was indeed Mile's old 4200 which is now alive and well in Chepstow. The exhaust has been changed to a standard one as the new owner found it too loud.

There was also an 05 face lift 4200 in grey with black leather having a service as well.......You may remember me saying in the past that I wouldn't trust my cars to anyone but STuart at Forza West and the fact he is now looking after Maserati's fills me with confidence when I get into one myself.....

Nice to know Miles' old steed is out there; how loud was it ? i am guessing it can't be as loud as Ian's Spyder ?

Hope you are back in a Trident again soon.

It certainly had a very robust sound but I can't believe someone returned it to standard. Talk about gelding the poor thing, it's just not right.

Do you have a video of your car - keep reading about the sound but let's HEAR it!

I think that if our car is used everyday then the exhaust was far to loud..If its a toy like Ians then I get having your ears bleeding in the name of fun.....

Well......worse on a spyder, if you can put up with drone at certain revs....only noisy when hammering it

Maybe he didnt have a choice in changing it. Some police forces (Norfolk I've read of cases) appear to be starting to enforce construction and use regs for exhausts. Mainly targeting the channel tunnel entrance types.

Nice to know it's still out and about. :D

I had heard that the exhaust was changed back to standard, about a month after I sold it. With the unvalved back boxes it was pretty loud, all the time. I must say I cringed a few times when leaving home in the wee small hours, but both my neighbours actually commented that they missed the noise when I got the GS.

Actually, better on a spyder. With the roof down there is no drone because there isn't an 'acoustic box'. At all speeds you can hear the exhaust note in the background, even with the valves closed, but it is in no way intrusive. At Le Mans, without any silencing at all, it was possible to hold a conversation at 90 without raising your voice. The biggest overall sound was wind rush. But the GS boxes I have on now are fabulous; very quiet when driving through town but very noisy when giving it the beans.

If I can remember, I'll take the old I-pad out the next time I take her out. I was out with the SCD on Sunday and I had a guy behind me for about 40 minutes. When we stopped he just laughed and said he was in automotive heaven and couldn't stop smiling. His girlfriend said much the same. it's just about perfect for everyday use but the unsilenced system has to go back on for Le Mans if only to p!ss the french off!

When it was for sale at Peter Smiths by me he had it in the show room and started it up..scared the life out of the customers looking at other cars.....He said then he may have to change the exhaust to sell it.
