Just came across this. It is such a shame as it was 'mint' when I sold her about 10 years ago to a specialist dealer, it has obviously been neglected over the years! I was going to get rid of those stupid fiberglass wings and return the arches back to normal. The owner before me had it fully restored to a fantastic quality but had delusions of grandeur and thought it was an 037 Stradale. I never got around to doing them and ended up selling her as it was in the garage being fixed more than I was driving her. I hope someone buys it and restore it to it's former glory. That person is definitely not going to be me!!

"Very little rust, rot free" but "needs welding" !

How much, last time I looked at one they were £3k

PS A Megane convertible, there's just no excuse for that ;)

A Volumex MonteCarlo sounds nice, I even like the wider arches but not enough to take on a project that obviously sounds like it needs more work than the advert implies

Haha!......At least it was the one with the Williams engine, but that's still no excuse. Fully restored ones are circa 20k now.

Andy, it would be great for an enthusiast like yourself to take it on and bring it to it's former glory, it's what it deserves. The Volumex engine was a 'hoot'............When it worked!!

I think I have had my fill of plastic cars, the current one is proving a challenge from now on I will stick to metal

Yeh!...........I didn't mean you personally Andy, I meant someone like-minded as yourself who has the enthusiasm to bring it back. After owning 2 Monte's I would never have another one.............Now an 037 Strad............Hmmmm!SM_Monte2[1].jpg

I'd love a Monty. Best car I had in my youth was a Beta Coupe 2000IE, it ran rings around my succession of Alfasuds, shame my youthful self wrote it off by driving like a dickwad (with 3rd Party Only insurance) 2 weeks after having it restored....
Anyway. This is far too expensive given its really a project, and needs the bodykit removing (and incinerating, so it can never ruin another car again) a full respray, 'some welding' and god knows what else rot lies in wait, or with the engine... Even if its got a good interior with all the impossible to source bits in place.... 5 grand for me

PS... Did i see this at Silverstone Classic last summer?? The owner claimed 300bhp and he'd seen 150mph (MEGA LOLZ)

May have been it as I have never seen another one like it but the advert says it's been layed up for 6 years. If it was mine he either had a lot of work done on the engine or he's a Bull Shi**ing Walter Mitty as it had no where near that power. The engine looks the same as it was to me in the advert.

The Silverstone one also had a VX blower, the guy claiming it was actually an 037 unit, on a monte engine. I can’t remember if that car had a body kit on, I actually think I would remember the violation of my retinas if it had (unless I blocked out that abuse memory). So it’s probably not that car. The guy was alright but I thought the 300bhp claim was a bit silly, given that’s about 100 bhp more than an actual 037 Stradale.

I thought the first 037s were 265 raising to 280BHP in 2.0 form, the Evo 2 versions used a 2.1 motor and were rated at 325BHP

They might be, I’m not an expert. Just thought I read in a mag fairly recently that the road going ones were in the lower 200s range. I’d like to think they were more like 300. Love an 037

After a bit more research i think you might be right, the Stradales were 205BHP. The figures I quoted were the race cars.
