It's all down to production costs, you can accomodate six cylinders in one ecu,but it becomes easier to use two for eight or more,as you use two four cylinder ones, rather than specifically manufacture a unit that will run ten or twelve which is not common.

A well respected indie advised me to try that first to prove it might be the ECU. What's the risk as I don't want to cause myself a head ache ?

Without going into too much detail and although it doesn't strictly apply to the 360(but can cause eeprom corruption),in the case of twin ecu set ups you have a master and a slave.

Firing order?

Not a problem on this car.

do you have a code reader, if so what codes are you getting and have you tried a reset ?

if not maybe someone local has one, or you can buy a basic one for you phone (will also need adapter)

Yeah have 3 different code readers being in the trade and all coming up with the left hand bank down. Different Indies I have spoken with and all very helpful but differing opinions from the alarm to the left hand ECU.

Ok guys a quick update. She is back up to full health and just had a great drive in her. The culprit was voltage drop down to the battery fitted by the prestige dealer in Egham who I won't name costing the previous owner £435.20 and guess what it was a 2 star Exide Battery with a Euro Car Parts sticker on the side that they probably paid less than £40 for. Can any of these big boys be trusted. Glad to know my ecu's are ok though. Think I'm going to carry on maintaining her myself the same as my 4200.Phil.

You know, the more work I do on my car the more I wonder how these garages get away with charging such exorbitant amounts for what really is just normal garage work. The difference between a Maserati/Ferrari to a regular everyday car is the badge when it comes to changing brake pads, bearings, suspension components etc. the only reason I can see to take it to a specialist/dealer is if it needs to be attached to a dealer system for diagnosis or a programming item, and of course for car knowledge that everyone else might not have.

The only reason I am contemplating getting mine serviced at a specialist is to have the stamp in the book and for the cam tappets. And that's it. If I knew it wouldn't make a difference to the end value of the car I would do everything myself knowing that the job had been done correctly and if I found something else that would be done too.

Self servicing here for the Annuals and well... just about everything else; no complicated parts found so far, even a V8 is only two fours strapped together!

Great news she is ok Phil; I'm heading past on Tuesday/Wednesday as I'm down to Exeter if you are in the UK and fancy a cuppa?
