Oil light intermittent flashing

I can't believe that the oil light is flashing on 'my' MiTo, it was serviced back in the middle of October, apparently it means that the oil has degenerated and shouldn't be topped up........should I have expected an oil change at the service? This is a lease car so I don't have any worries about getting it sorted! Phew:thumb1:

Well she is off to the garage in the morning. What I just don't understand is WHY don't they do a proper service once a year?? Perhaps I'm old now but I thought a service meant checking, changing all fluids and filters?? Apparently NOT......wait until the warning light comes on??...Oh FFS!!

Surely not ?
That's ridiculous, it's got to be cheaper just to change it while it's there hasn't it ?

Well after arguing with the lease company and then them finally agreeing-after I told them I was going away -ickle white lie :blushed:- she went down to the garage, they had just go the job through by fax and told me they would have her ready by late that afternoon....NOT what the lease company told me grrrrrrr. I arranged to take her in the following day- Christmas eve, as if I didn't have enough to do! All fixed but apparently it's all due to 'Alfa' working sooo hard to reduce emissions that this is now a common fault, the oil AND filter were changed at the service.....the oil level was too high and the fuel had mixed with the oil....................Now....do I believe this??? They reckon they'll see me again in a month or so's time with the same fault??

The best thing they told me was....she needs driving for about 80 miles at 80 + MPH...........those words were better than 'I love you'......**** YES :thumb1:

However....do we agree with what the gararge told me?? Remember I was the one that fell for 'there's only about 3 zoe yellow 916 spiders in the UK......when I bought her yeah OK laff lol; seriously I'd welcome any thoughts??

Ok,there are two possibilities

At the last service/oil change the dealer didn't reset the oil degredation counter,so after a few months it popped up(we see that quite often)

Or,you do a lot of short journeys and it regenerates quite often, sometimes maybe missing a complete cycle in which case the sump does fill up with unused diesel.

You can tell if it is the first case,by going to a specialist with examiner or witech and checking the oil change intervals on recorded in your ecu,if there isn't one there for the mileage on your receipt from the last service, then they didn't reset it,if on the other hand it does show then it's the second case.

Hi Alfa tuner,

yep they did tell me about the counter thingy-see my technical knowhow there?? And they also asked me if I do lots of urban driving -which I don't, I shall bear your comments in mind chuck -next time she's in the garage.........Thanks for your time and for replying :thumb1:
