Bought some new chrome ones from Hill Engineering, and only lasted about 12 months before going rusty again :-(. Going to see if its possible to obtain some stainless steel bolts. Will post here if I manage to find any

Chrome just doesn't seem practical.

Try these folk they’re incredibly helpful, you’ll need to accurately measure all the dimensions of your bolts, front and rear, and ask them for stainless ones.

I used to take them off and spray them every year or two.

Technicians using torque guns is what ruins the chrome and any subsequent re-finish. Hills did a special socket made out of softer metal to avoid ruining the chrome or you could just use a breaker bar which is the correct procedure... but it only takes one fast fit place changing tyres and they're ruined

There was a forum member offered stainless bolts a few years ago. If i remember right they were around £160 for the set of 20.

Around 4 /5 years ago so i would expect stainless to be around the £220 mark now.

I had a pair of e type front bumpers , about 18" long , I got quoted £600-900 depending how bad they were, chroming anything isn't cheap

I recall that there was a debate on here a few years ago about being cautious using SS wheel bolts due to their possible fragility?

I don't remember the exact details, but I think someone had one snap and they concluded that SS is the wrong type of metal to be used in such high torque & stress applications.

I do agree though that the chromed Maserati bolts for the 3200 and indeed the GT leave a lot to be desired and you can do better than OEM

Standard ones are total rubbish - I have bought new ones (and had old ones re-chromed) and they go rusty and the threads aren't even strong. I bought roughly the right size steel ones on ebay and then some plastic chrome caps. You can't tell unless you are looking right up close at the wheel. Perfect.

I was wondering how they looked. I posted a link to them up above and may well give them a go at around £15, it wouldn’t be much of a risk.

I remember in the good old days, HR Owen would replace rusty ones gratis when the car came in for a major service or work…. those days are long gone.

These guys did my GS bolts about 5 yr ago, still no rust but I don’t let a monkey with an impact gun near it.
