My Strad has Pirelli Corsa all round.
I find the when setting off spiritedly in 1st I get spin no matter what I do
I set off normally and then put my foot down and it spins. My old GT/s MC didn't do this and I cant believe and extra 20 BHP makes all that difference?

They also chirp when changing at hi rpm, as the wheel spins momentarily, this is due to the MC Race gear change I feel, its viscous!

They are not a good tyre and will be changing them as they are way too twitchy on the front.

Michelins are the way to go apparently.

Pirelli ----- are ------ shite -------

Maserati must have got them free of them or they wouldn't have put them on.

Why do manufacturers fit them then?
Surely a tyre manufacturer can't live off making shyte tyres?

They fit them because they are given them free or very close to it. The Italians are all in bed with each other, it's an old boys network thing. They know how many full price units will be sold vs the number of cars sold so it's just a business deal like any other. The financial element is all that matters in the end to most companies, Maserati is no different.

They are shite in the wet, cold and anything other than track use when they are warmed up . I shredded a set at Llandow and they really did perform well. On the road they are utterly shite.

I got rid of my Corsas yesterday and have switched to Michelin PSS, thanks for the recommendation Athol. Obviously they need to scrub up a bit first before they are working properly, but I had a 100+ mile run home on them yesterday and they're already feeling better. But I had the geo/alignment done at the same time by Tony @ Wheels In Motion in Chesham. He is a don when it comes to the science of this stuff and I learnt so much yesterday. My car was in pretty good shape, as I would have expected having been looked after by the Maserati GB master techs in Slough up to when I bought it at the end of last year, but it was an excellent exercise to go through every setting including chassis alignment. I can thoroughly recommend him, people have even brought their cars over from France to be set up by him. Thanks for the tip Aldous

Do you mean in the same way German & French manufacturers will have deals with Continental & Michelin. I suspect Corsa is fitted purely for marketing purposes so buyers think they have a race tyre. Unfortunately, as we all know, there is no such thing as a perfect tyre for all conditions. Rather a set of compromises for the intended market.

So, before we trash the brand completely, here is a thought.

I am happy with the rear end grip, I am very underwhelmed by the front end...its skittish and fidgety.

The rear tyres are a few months old and the fronts could be original so 6 years old.

Do we think the rubber ageing is possibly an issue and they wear by age and not miles?

Driving style and road surfaces will be bigger wear factors where a 6yo tyre is concerned. Assuming regular usage. My old man did some work in Milton Keynes once upon a time - from the M1 to the Office involved 13 roundabouts. There & back. He never got through so much rubber - other than when he lived in Soho, but that's another story :)

The fronts are not original and were fitted new when I bought my car in early 2016.

Thanks

I really love Goodyear F1's

We all know we can get the fronts, but the rears are not in the exact size.

So, could someone explain what would happen if I went for the closest fit: 285/45/20 instead of the OEM fit: 295/35/20?
