The CD changer

Long time members will remember my ongoing issues with trying to get a decent Bluetooth/ DAB set up in the 4200.
Anyway I won't bore you all with that again...

But I have a related question. In trying to add said adapter above, I chose to replace the CD changer input plug (back of NIT unit) with the one from an adapter that spoofs the unit into thinking its playing a CD from the changer, and it's actually playing input from the adapter (adapter works ok in that NIT socket).

Anyway in doing that, I obviously disconnected the CD changer at back of NIT unit end.

Subsequently I've realised I now can't get the CDs out the changer, and there are some rarities in there I'm struggling to replace... so I replaced the CD changer socket at back of NIT unit and still.... no power to CD changer, no lights on it, can't get em out.

I was thinking the changer gets its power from the NIT input socket but j guess that's not the case...

I don't remember if I did anything else to the changer when I was messing last summer, but my memory is shat....

Does the CDC get its power from somewhere else?

Looking at the pin out in this post, pin 16 is 12v in and 17 is the ground. I’d be stuffing 12v and ground into those seperate from the NIT to see if there is any life in it.

I think you need pin 15 and 16 to 12v. One is the permanent live, the other is the “on” signal. And 17 to ground. Unless you can eject without the unit being on.

Hmm. That is strange... I haven't touched anything at that side of the NIT unit.... so rather strange there now seems to be no power to the cdc.
Is there any power leads that unplug at the CDC end? That I may have forgotten I removed (before the nightmare of trying to get the boot trims out again)

Had a quick look at some for sale on eBay, there does seem to be only one input. Maybe your switched live has gone missing. If you can identify the right cables, putting the 12v in on the bench should allow you to get your CDs back.

“I haven't touched anything at that side of the NIT unit”

I don’t understand this bit. Surely if you’ve put the Bluetooth adapter in the NIT socket you’ve touched that side of the NIT?

That drawing (not the photo) with A, B, C1 C2 etc written on it? is that a diagram of the plug?
Or the sockets?
I may be reading that wrongly

The drawing is the socket on the back. The little rectangle on the drawing is the red fuse in the picture of the back.

OK. I guess that drawing is upside down then? Unless there are different types of NIT units... The CDC socket on mine, is bottom left of the bunch of sockets. C3 on the pic is top right?
But either way, the CDC worked when it was previously plugged in there. Since I plugged in the btooth there (which worked) but then recently swapped back, it doesn't work...

Also interestingly, with the the CDC plugged back in, the info display doesn't find CDC any more when you scroll through sources... but cdc does get found when btooth is plugged in...

One more thing too... with car ignition on / engine off: there is a faint whine from the cdc unit, whether its plugged in at the NIT or not. This isnt the whir of CDs spinning though, its fainter than that. But still no lights on it, and can't get cds out...
I'm confused!

Seems strange that it should make any noise when it has no power.

It might be that it needs an extra 12v into the switched input as Oneball said, that it needs to have the casing grounded, or that it’s totally goosed, which seems unlikely, given that it worked before.

If you still can’t get any life out of it, you could try the direct approach to getting your CDs back and take it to bits.

Long shot but maybe try plugging the cdc back into the NIT then disconnecting the battery??
