100%. As a property owner I can and have visited the country this year for maintenance for rental which is legal. If the NHS ap gets accepted by the EU as expected in the next few weeks, that will get me into the circuit for the race, hence booking a ticket as there were only 20% availability and couldn’t risk waiting.

If it all goes pear shaped, I’ll send my e-ticket to Phil to use if he wants it!
Sounds very good!

I'm starting to feel more confident. For the first time I've bothered putting the dates on the family calendar. It's strange talking to colleagues in Germany who in general are a bit more pessimistic about their prospects for travel this summer.

I think the biggest problem for most people, and certainly myself and Mrs. 1963, is the fact that at the moment you have to be tested in the country you are travelling to the UK from 3 days prior. Ok, bit of a faff finding somewhere to be tested but then if positive you can’t travel. What happens then? I don’t know if any of these rules will change on July 19th. As said above rather confusing.

The hotel we're staying at currently offer free testing and free accommodation if you test positive.

I think that particular rules does change on July 19th if you are double dosed.
You will have to test within two days of arriving back in the U.K.
(Well that’s my understanding of things).

edit:
I think I was wring and pre departure testing will remain.

Pretty sure you will still have to test before the return flight, but it's all likely to change before I get to try so....

Looking at the estate of most on here I'd say all are fully vaccinated by now.

That's my understanding as well, Sam. My mother is in Madeira (which is on the green list) on holiday now and will self-test when she gets back. I think we would need to take some tests with us - whether it's the cheap lateral-flow tests or more expensive PCR ones I'm not sure.

My expectation right now is that getting into France will involve a bit more admin and bureaucracy than getting back to the UK.

It's not the getting back to UK it's the getting out in the first place. UK is listed as high risk because of D variant and requires 10 days quarantine on arrival in some eu countries.
I am waiting to get to NL for a work trip and still can't as of this morning.

What are the criteria for entry to the NL from here, Gaz?

Negative pcr 24hrs before or negative test 72 hrs before plus negative rapid test 24hrs before
Health screening form.
Quarantine declaration form.
10 days isolation on arrival as we are high risk country or testing after 5 days if there over the five days
In other words not worth all the hassle.

Agreed, that's a total pita.

It's interesting talking to friends in Paris who have very active social lives. It seems like things far more open there than here. It does concern me that, when we open up more here next week, if infections rise then I could imagine other countries being even less inclined to let us in. Which would be a shame.

Without taking a turn down a dark and forbidden conversational path, it's worth noting that the UK's testing per head of population is around 2x that of France and 3.5x that of the Netherlands. It's no wonder that we have more recorded cases.

Quickly back on topic, is everyone ready, cars cleaned, squeaks fixed, passports with 6 months left to run, GB stickers firmly affixed?

It’s actually a U.K. sticker you need now, and the old GB ones or the GB euro emblem on the end of the licence plate don’t count,

Current entry requirements for France are the same as described for NL above other than no need for quarantine if you have been double jabbed and have the proof on your NHS ap.

PCR tests are just the same, but hoping they may simplify or remove before LM. You can’t use NHS tests so have to buy private and the minimum for the lot is about £250 per person. I know this as recently done it to check on my rental properties there. Plenty of French testing sites if u go on their website. It is a pita, but that’s the only way to do it ATM

Things have rounded up for uk residents entering back England but nothing from the uk bureaucracy has changed for ambered foreigners. This with the air and sea links scarced and very expensive lead to the fact that we can travel everywhere in continental Europe but not to the British islands to meet our friends.

Macron making announcements this evening so we will see.
I have seen several UK cars on the road in the last week obviously holiday makers with roof boxes on.

There were two French families at the top of Malvern on Saturday so they seem to be letting you out.
