Amazingly I have just seen £30'000 of counterfeit notes in the rucksack of a 22 year old who came to buy my car.

Me: "Erm.... this briefcase full of cash is counterfeit"
Him: "It can't be, I've just got it from the bank"
Me: "Okay, come with me to pay it in at my bank"
Him: "Nah I haven't got time, what about if I give you an extra £2000?"
Me: "No thankyou old bean"

I'd have asked him for 2 grand of it, for me not to tell the police. ;)

Edit. Were they good copies?

I'm only 5ft8'' grew up on a council estate with knobs like that around. I'm not saying I'm a tough guy I'd probably got me *** kicked in the process but I couldn't leave it. I wouldn't take 30k in cash of anyone just in case of forgeries.

That's hilarious that you clearly spotted the cash was worthless and he thought it become ok if you took an extra £2k of it, where's the logic there?!
Well spotted though

And did you call the Police???? OK we may nit love them but evey penny of duff notes means extra charges to you and me at the banks to compensate them for their loss or some poor trader (corner shop) who changes a £20 note for a can of Pepsi.

I've got two examples of £20 that I keep so my staff are aware of how to check the differences. The best one of the two has a watermark as well of the Queen but she looks slightly oriental.

The good copies are hard to spot unless you have another genuine £20 in your hand at the same time or a UV light handy.

If i surrender them at the bank then all i get is a receipt for my accountant.

I didn't know for sure, I suspected and called him on it. Regardless I would have insisted that anyone paying cash come to the bank to pay the money in, I assumed he would want to bank transfer.
Yes called the police and recorded the numberplate of the vehicle, though that turns out to have had false plates.

I have never seen counterfeit notes but i reckon a bag of cash would ring a few alarm bells.
